Liverpool take Alexis Mac Allister transfer decision after midfielder Real Madrid links
Liverpool have been tipped to make big changes in the midfield this summer.
Players like Adam Wharton and Adam Scott have been linked with incoming deals - while question marks remain over Liverpool’s midfield options.
It’s clear that Arne Slot got diminishing returns from members of the midfield ranks last season - as Liverpool slumped from Premier League champions to a fifth-place finish.
There could be consequences in the event that Andoni Iraola - the new head coach - decides to shake up his options.
Alexis Mac Allister linked heavily to Real Madrid
With Curtis Jones’ contract expiring in 2027 there is a suggestion that the England midfielder could be sold this summer. And another player whose future has been in doubt is Alexis Mac Allister.
The Argentina FIFA World Cup winner has been beneath his best over the past year or so - and has a deal which expires in 2028.
No talks are currently taking place over a new deal for the 27-year-old - who arrived for around £35m from Brighton back in 2023.
Madrid sign Bernardo and want deal for Fernandez
Real Madrid have been consistently linked with a move for the No10 - and a report in the Liverpool Echo now provides clarity on Mac Allister’s transfer destiny.
Madrid have signed Bernardo Silva on a free transfer and plan to acquire Enzo Fernandez from Real Madrid. New heas coach Jose Mourinho is restructuring the midfielder - and that doesn’t leave space in the blueprint for Mac Allister.
Madrid interest in Mac Allister cools
“Talk over a possible departure for Alexis Mac Allister has cooled, with long-term suitors Real Madrid having signed Bernardo Silva and now looking at Enzo Fernandez of Chelsea,” the report reads.
That means Macca is highly likely to be given a chance to prove himself under new head coach Andoni Iraola once he returns for preseason training.
He remains a player of rare quality and class - but needs to unlock that ability for the Reds on a more regular basis.
