Xabi Alonso plot to lure Liverpool midfielder to Chelsea in January deal
Chelsea SOLD Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
That deal has left a sizeable gap in Xabi Alonso’s midfield with one Liverpool star high up on the Blues boss’s wishlist.
Alexis Mac Allister, 27, has made clear his frustrations at not being offered a new contract at Anfield.
With Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai earning bumper new contracts instead the Argentina international has been offered nothing.
Liverpool must weigh up Alexis Mac Allister deal
The FIFA World Cup winner’s current deal expires in 2028 - meaning sporting director Julian Ward is in a tough position over the South American.
Either Liverpool earn some money on the No10 in the upcoming windows or else risk losing him for nothing in just under two years’ time.
That has put Chelsea on alert according to a report in Football Insider - which claims that a deal for Mac Allister could be wrapped up as soon as January.
Chelsea plot January move for Mac Allister
“Chelsea have set their sights on a move to sign Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister amid doubts about his long-term future,” the report reads.
“Xabi Alonso is determined to strengthen his midfield in January after failing to replace Enzo Fernandez when he made the big-money move to Man City on deadline day.
“Mac Allister is likely to be high on Chelsea's radar as a result, with his potential availability and frustration at Anfield likely placing them on high alert.
“A January move cannot be ruled out, with the Blues stepping up their efforts to strengthen in midfield and Mac Allister held in high regard by the club's hierarchy.”
Mac Allister Liverpool future plunged into doubt
Mac Allister moved to Liverpool from Brighton in summer 2023 - for a bargain fee of £35m.
Since then he has become a Premier League champion although his form began to tail off during the 2025/26 season.
The playmaker has recovered some of his form since that contract outburst but we must now wait to see whether any new offer is forthcoming before January.
