Liverpool are now ninth in the Premier League table.

They were sixth and only six points adrift of Manchester City but, thanks to their 3-0 defeat on Sunday, they're now nine points away from the top spot.

Obviously, this doesn't rule them completely out of the title race but, being nine points behind just six games into the season is rather worrying.

Their lack of form is down to a lot of different things but, one of their main problems has been their lack of recruitment.

Last term, a tonne of money was spent on new players by Liverpool but this summer, only four new ones were brought in.

This has caused the rumour mill to go into overdrive and now, the future of one Liverpool star has been made clear.

Bournemouth could end up selling Alex Scott in January

At the moment, Liverpool's midfield is probably their biggest problem area.

The Reds have hardly any depth in the middle of the park and, even when they do have all four of their central midfielders available, there's still going to be an issue within any partnership they line up with.

That's why the latest news to emerge about Alex Scott's future should excite the Reds' fanbase.

"Bournemouth have opened the door to selling Alex Scott in January following talks over the last few days, as Nizaar Kinsella called," Ben Jacobs shared via X.

"Mid-season exit not guaranteed. But if the right offer arrives, understood to be £100m+, and Premier League safety is looking likely, then a sale is not discounted.

"Chelsea made multiple bids for Scott over the summer, as exclusively revealed on talkSPORT. They retain an interest.

"Liverpool also well-positioned if they choose to move."

Alex Scott's arrival would result in Alexis Mac Allister exiting Liverpool

Although Liverpool need to add more midfielders to their first-team squad, if Scott joins, one of Andoni Iraola's midfielders will be moved on.

And, since Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have just extended their contracts, Alexis Mac Allister's exit feels likely.

The Argentinian's contract is set to expire in 2028 and, with Liverpool having no intention of prolonging his stay, the upcoming January window may be the best time for the Reds to sell him.

Throughout the summer, Mac Allister was linked with joining Real Madrid, and, if over £100 million is spent by Julian Ward on Scott, he's going to have to make some of that money back.

Obviously, signing Scott would be a massive step in the right direction but, it's all down to whether Liverpool would be happy to see Mac Allister leave.

If you were looking at his performances last term, there would be no reason for him not to go but, since he's been the Reds' best midfielder this time around, getting rid of him is probably going to be a lot harder for Liverpool to do.

At the moment, it's anyone's guess what could happen but, for now, the future of Mac Allister is heavily resting on what Liverpool do about Scott.
