Liverpool join race for £60m Premier League star
Liverpool and their players are starting to gear themselves up to face Manchester City on Sunday.
The Anfield outfit are set to face their biggest challenge of the season against Enzo Maresca's men with Andoni Iraola looking to keep up their unbeaten record.
At the moment, Liverpool remain unbeaten across all competitions and, although they're only sixth in the Premier League, if they manage to beat the Cityzens, they'll cut their lead in half.
However, without Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo at his disposal, it's unclear what Iraola's starting XI is going to look like.
For now, the transfer window is shut but, with how desperately Liverpool need to add some depth among their ranks, the rumour mill hasn't stopped turning.
So, the fact that they've now entered the race for a Premier League star is hardly surprising.
Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the transfer race for Adrien Truffert
Before Iraola was even appointed, talk of Liverpool completely rebuilding their first-team squad was rife.
Their poor performances from the 2025-26 season were fresh in the memory of fans which caused most of them to demand a complete change.
In the end, four new players were signed by the Reds and, while most of them have had a positive impact so far, change is still needed.
That's why, even though the transfer window is shut until January, Liverpool are still being linked with deals for new players.
And now, as per a fresh update from TEAMtalk, a new player has found its way onto the Reds' shortlist.
"Manchester United are expected to face serious competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool, as well as other leading European clubs, for Bournemouth left-back Adrien Truffert," they wrote.
"Sources [are] indicating that the France international will be in serious demand ahead of the 2027 transfer windows.
"Truffert joined Bournemouth from Rennes in 2025 as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Milos Kerkez, and quickly became a regular, offering attacking width as well as defensive reliability.
"Now the Merseysiders, who are yet to see a consistent tune from Kerkez since his £40m move to Anfield, could also look to raid the Vitality Stadium again – though the list of elite clubs pursuing him will be competitive, sources expect."
Liverpool still need to make a few transfers before they're ready to properly compete again
Even though over £150 million was spent on new players by Liverpool in the summer, they still need to make improvements.
There are a couple of areas among their squad that have been upgraded thanks to these moves such as right-back but, that has just made their midfield and left-back even more of a weakness.
These two positions are probably the most important areas of the Reds' squad that they need to upgrade.
If they don't manage to do this, there's no way that they'll be able to get back to the top.
But, since they've now spent way over £600 million over the last couple of years, it's unclear how much more money they can actually spend.
And, since players seem to be getting more and more expensive every season, things are going to get tough.
At the moment, it's anyone's guess what the future has in store for Liverpool but, if the January transfer window doesn't include adding at least a couple of new players to their ranks, some serious questions will need to be asked.
