In the past, many different players have been linked with a Liverpool move.

And, while some never ended up coming to fruition, the Reds still kept their eyes on any potential moves that could be made.

One of the best examples of this is Djed Spence. The Englishman was scouted by Liverpool back in 2023 and, with him being on the market this summer, Liverpool threw their hat into the ring to try and get a deal over the line.

In the end, the Englishman chose to join Inter Milan but, this proves that even if it doesn't seem like the Reds want to sign an old target, they still have half an eye watching over them.

And now, after the latest transfer news shared by Fabrizio Romano, it feels like the Reds could have the perfect chance to sign yet another one of their former targets.

Juventus have signed Jhon Lucumi, opening the door for Liverpool to sign Gleison Bremer

Before Ronald Araujo was signed, Liverpool's defence was a major concern.

Even though the Anfield outfit have a fair few options among their ranks, the fact that Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet have never played in the Premier League before meant that it was unclear whether they'd have what it takes to make the transition.

This led to many different rumours emerging with several defenders linked with an Anfield switch.

One of those players was Juventus' Gleison Bremer.

Over the the past couple of years, the Brazilian has been available for just over €50 million thanks to a release clause in his contract.

On paper, he looks like a solid centre-back but, for one reason or another, Liverpool never made the jump to sign him.

However, as per an update from Romano, that deal could now be back on.

"Jhon Lucumí takes first pic as new Juventus player from Bologna for deal over €20m package," he shared via X.

"Here the Colombian defender with his agent Simone Rondanini from The Team."

Gleison Bremer would be a strong signing for Liverpool

Obviously, Liverpool's main goal with their transfers this season will be to upgrade their team.

However, with the club not having anymore non-homegrown spots available among their ranks, the transfers that they make need to be meticulously planned out.

Aruajo took the last non-homegrown spot and, while his ability to play as a centre-back or a right-back is much needed, his injury history is a tad worrying.

Indeed, Liverpool would have been in the same boat with Bremer but, he just seems more suited to Premier League football and much less accident-prone on the pitch.

Much like the Uruguayan, the defender is also 27 years old so his experience wouldn't be an issue.

And, since Juventus have just signed Lucumi, the Colombian could easily take Bremer's place which could make the Serie A outfit's stance a little less strong.

Obviously, some more deals would have to be made before this one got over the line but, in reality, this seems like a smart decision, especially now that the Serie A outfit have a new centre-back among their ranks.
