Jurgen Klopp will be concerned by Liverpool's recent record against Brighton

Liverpool's recent record against Brighton doesn't make for pretty viewing for Jurgen Klopp.

There are not too many teams who have consistently got the better of Liverpool in recent seasons, but the Seagulls are one of the few sides to have regularly caused the Reds problems.

That issue has only been exacerbated by the arrival of Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, whose chaotic and high-octane football has sometimes proved too much for Liverpool to handle.

With Liverpool facing Brighton in the Premier League on 31 March when they return from the international break, there is no room for error in what is a tantalising title race.

But just how troubled has Liverpool's recent record against the south coast side been?

LIVERPOOL'S RECENT HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD WITH BRIGHTON

Brighton's initial arrival in the Premier League in 2017 didn't stir up too much trouble for Liverpool, with the Reds winning their first six 21st century top-flight meetings.

The first two clashes finished 5-1 and 4-0 as Liverpool dominated this fixture, with victories getting narrower over the next two seasons.

However, Liverpool's recent record with the Seagulls leaves an awful lot to desired, with Brighton having slowly become Klopp's bogey team

Liverpool have failed to win any of their last four meetings, including two defeats and a draw in three encounters last season. There was, of course, the 3-0 humiliation at the Amex in the Premier League, as well as a late and agonising FA Cup defeat and a thrilling 3-3 draw at Anfield.

Even with Liverpool's much-improved displays this season, they weren't able to win on the south coast, drawing 2-2 following Mohamed Salah's quickfire brace.

Perhaps even more alarmingly, Liverpool have only won one of their last eight clashes with the Seagulls, and none of their previous three Anfield duels.

Liverpool managed a 2-0 win at the Amex in the 2021/22 season, but there have also been three defeats and four draws either side of that victory.

Klopp has only managed an average of 1.79 points per match in his 14 encounters with Brighton - his worst average tally against any English team outside of the traditional 'Big Six' that he has faced on ten or more occasions.

ARE BRIGHTON IN GOOD FORM?

Brighton's form has been patchy to say the least since the turn of the year, with the Seagulls currently sat eighth in the Premier League table having recently exited the Europa League at the hands of Roma.

A 4-0 hammering in the Italian capital sealed Brighton's fate in the last 16, while they have only managed to score over one goal in one of their last eight matches in all competitions.

From their nine league matches in 2024, they have only secured three wins, with those coming against Crystal Palace, ten-man Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.

Their inconsistency should be a confidence boost for Liverpool's players and supporters ahead of Sunday's match, but Brighton remain a team capable of hurting any club on their day.
