Liverpool's midfield is probably going to be their main area of focus in the January transfer window.

At the moment, the Anfield outfit only have four central midfielders among their ranks with one of them being 19-year-old Trey Nyoni.

And, although each player is good, this season, only Alexis Mac Allister has really met expectations.

Indeed, Nyoni has done well when called upon but, since he's still so young, he can't be relied upon for every game.

Others, such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have failed to make their mark which is why so many midfielders have been linked with a Liverpool switch.

Since the January window is now just a few months away, rumours have been emerging about the Reds' potential plans and now, one of their targets has just confirmed that he's ready to make the switch.

Gjivai Zechiel's performance vs Como confirms that he's ready to play for Liverpool

At the moment, it feels like Liverpool's defensive midfielders could do with an upgrade or two.

And, while this would be a normal thing for any other club to say, the fact that Liverpool have just given Gravenberch and Szoboszlai new long-term contracts is worrying.

At the time, this may have been seen as the best way to confirm the Reds' future and, even though Szoboszlai more than earned his new deal after his performances last term, playing in a double pivot is clearly not for him.

That's why fans have been constantly asking Liverpool to change things up in the middle of the park and bring some new players in.

And now, after his performance against Como on Wednesday, Feyenoord's Gjivai Zechiel has confirmed that he's ready to make the move.

Gjivai Zeichel would easily be able to fit into Liverpool's starting XI

Obviously, since Zeichel has never played outside of the Eredivisie, making the step up to the Premier League would be a big jump for him.

The Dutchman has also only recently been given his Netherlands debut but, since his return to Feyenoord this term, he's quickly become one of their most important players.

During the vast majority of his games, the midfielder has been used as a number six, however, he can be used as a number eight or 10 if needed which is probably one of the main reasons why Liverpool want to sign him.

As per Sofascore, Zeichel's performance vs Como on Wednesday was one of the best on the pitch.

In the 90 minutes that the 22-year-old played, he maintained a pass accuracy of 96 per cent and made two key passes throughout the clash.

He managed to have three shots during the game with one of them even resulting in a goal after his "fabulous" turn sent Como's defender the wrong way.

Zeichel had 70 touches of the ball and only lost possession of it five times. Defensively, he was also fairly solid as he made three interceptions, one clearance and recovered the ball six times.

Of course, the Dutchman is still young so there are some areas of his game that are still raw but, on the face of things, a deal for the 22-year-old makes a lot of sense, especially with how inflated the central midfield market is at the moment.
