Liverpool still have a fair few gaps in their first-team squad that need filling.

Andoni Iraola was expected to completely transform the way that things were heading in L4.

And, while he's still unbeaten in the Premier League, the performances that his squad have put in have been rather uninspiring.

Admittedly, his decision to play Cody Gakpo on the right-wing seems to have worked out fairly well and Victor Munoz's first start for Liverpool was also very positive.

In fact, the Spaniard actually scored the best goal of Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday and was arguably their best player.

However, with their squad still being notably weaker than most of their rivals, a few important deals may still need to be agreed before they're ready to challenge for silverware again.

And now, they seem to have been handed a golden opportunity to get a deal for one of their long-term targets over the line.

Paris Saint-Germain have made an enquiry for Jaydee Canvot

At the moment, it's fair to say that Paris Saint-Germain are the best team in the world.

The Ligue 1 winners have won the Champions League two seasons in a row and, even though they've just sold Bradley Barcola to Liverpool, the players that they've replaced him with are just as good.

They've earnt a record amount of money from player sales this term so the fact that they're still interested in acquiring some new talent is expected.

However, with how strong the depth among their ranks already is, Luis Enrique signing anyone else could mean that some more of their first-team squad are going to be sacrificed.

And, if an update from Santi Aouna is to be believed, the Parisians could be about to add Jaydee Canvot to their ranks which could open up the door for an Illia Zabarnyi exit which would certainly pique the interest of Liverpool.

"PSG has made inquiries with Crystal Palace regarding Jaydee Canvot," he wrote.

"However, the Parisian club is not expected to make a move on this transfer window.

"The track could be reactivated during the winter transfer window."

Illia Zabarnyi would be welcome addition at Liverpool

Although Aouna says that a deal for Canvot isn't likely to take place this summer, the fact that one could be eyed for winter could still mean that Liverpool would be able to sign Zabarnyi.

The Ukranian centre-back already has plenty of Premier League experience and, since he was managed by Iraola during his time in England, there would be little-to-no transitional stage for the 24-year-old.

Liverpool may have signed Ronald Araujo and Jeremy Jacquet this summer but, with Joe Gomez still rather unreliable, it's believable that Liverpool will be looking for a new centre-back.

Indeed, Zabarnyi is less versatile than Gomez but, since he's around six years younger, there's still plenty of time for him to grow and for him to become even better than he already is.

Of course, the fact that he'd be a non-homegrown player is a bit of an issue but, with all the changes and transfers that are likely to take place over the next few months, Zabarnyi could end up being one of the Reds' most important signings yet.
