Liverpool beat Real Madrid to transfer of £30m sensation

Liverpool have spent over £600 million on new players over the last couple of years.

The Anfield outfit spent over £450 million last summer with Bradley Barcola's transfer this time around taking up most of their budget.

Indeed, the rebuild of Liverpool's attack was much needed but, even though they've improved their squad, it still feels like more changes need to be made.

Of course, with the transfer window now shut, moves can't be confirmed until January but, it would benefit the Reds massively if they managed to starting getting some deals ready to go.

However, with how busy Liverpool's summer was, it's interesting to see that they actually managed to beat Real Madrid to a transfer.

At the moment, four of Liverpool's six summer arrivals are playing a major role for Andoni Iraola.

In fact, Ronald Araujo has arguably become one of the Reds' most important players since he joined.

Not only has the defender managed to add a lot more defensive stability to Liverpool's back line but, he's also managed to become their first-choice right-back.

However, there are some of Liverpool's arrivals who haven't been that lucky.

In fact, Lucca Brughmans was sent straight back on loan to KRC Genk.

Indeed, there were rumours about him potentially coming in as Liverpool's second-choice 'keeper but, since Giorgi Mamardashvili stayed put, he was sent back to Belgium.

And, while this probably didn't fill fans with much confidence about his future, the fact that Liverpool managed to beat Real Madrid to his transfer will certainly pique their interest.

"I knew he was on the radar of top clubs," KRC Genk's sporting director Dimitri de Conde said in quotes relayed by Sports Witness.

"That he’d even visited Real Madrid. And that he was one of the lads we hoped to get a handsome fee for at some point, to ensure the club’s survival. But for it to happen that quickly. And for that amount… I never saw that coming."

Now that Alisson is 33 years old, it's hardly surprising to see Liverpool trying to figure out who their next number one is going to be.

At the moment, it feels like Mamardashvili is the most obvious player to plug the gap and, even though he did play well against Tottenham on Tuesday evening, his performances last season were atrocious.

This lack of form last season has lived in the memories of Liverpool's supporters with some even demanding that the 'keeper was sold.

In the end, that didn't happen but, with Brughmans now in the picture, Mamardashvili's chance to prove his worth could be about to disappear.

If he goes back to his old performance levels, the Georgian will have likely ruined his last-ever chance of becoming Liverpool's number one.

Because, with the way that Brughmans is playing at the moment, it's clear that he's ready to take on that role.

Of course, he's still only young so he's likely to make the odd mistake here and there but, with his potential and ability to shot-stop, the Belgian could easily become the Reds' next Alisson.
