Andoni Iraola's time at Liverpool has been fairly mixed so far.

While he may have only lost one game across all competitions, the Reds are still nowhere near where they need to be in terms of performance.

Every now and then, the Anfield outfit have managed to prove their worth and actually put on a good display but, more often than not, one area of their team has let them down or just not met the standards expected of them.

This has caused fans to demand that even more players are signed in the next couple of transfer windows to finally try and get the Reds back on track.

But, one thing Iraola has done well is get the most out of Liverpool's youngsters and, after the recent performances of one, he may have saved the Anfield outfit around £100 million.

Andoni Iraola's decision to keep Trey Nyoni may have saved Liverpool £100m

The summer transfer window was fairly mad.

Over £100 million pounds were spent on single players by many different clubs with Manchester City even adding two to their ranks.

The fact that midfielders such as Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi were going for that much money was obscene.

Inflation has massively rocked the transfer market but, since Iraola managed to keep Trey Nyoni at Anfield, he could have just saved them over £100 million.

At the moment, Alex Scott seems to be the Reds' prime midfield target and, while he'd be a good signing, the £100 million that Bournemouth are demanding for him feels rather steep.

That's why, the recent performances of Nyoni are rather exciting.

And, it's clear that Iraola thinks the same way after what he said to El Boro in an interview on their YouTube Channel.

"He’s surprised me. As soon as I arrived, I saw him and thought, ‘There’s a proper footballer here,'" he said.

Trey Nyoni could be the next big thing to emerge from Liverpool

Although Nyoni is only 19 years old now, he's already performing to an extremely high standard.

The Englishman has featured in eight games this season and, although he's been used in a double pivot, something he hasn't ever done before, he's performed extremely well.

Of course, since he's so young, he can't be expected to play two 90 minute games of football each week but, even if he can just play one, it would help Liverpool out massively.

His development has been going extremely well over the last couple of months and, if he continues on this upward trajectory, there's no knowing how good he could eventually become.

Obviously, reinforcement is still needed among the Reds' midfield but, for now, Nyoni looks likely to be an excellent option for Liverpool.

Here's hoping Iraola continues to give Nyoni the playing time that he deserves so that he can reach his peak.
