He's here, meet Liverpool's very own Adam Wharton
Liverpool have their very own Adam Wharton, he's arrived on the scene.
Everyone seems to want the Crystal Palace midfielder, but actually getting him out of Selhurst Park is another matter entirely. Liverpool have already discovered just how difficult it can be to negotiate with the Eagles.
The Reds learned that the hard way last summer when Marc Guehi looked destined to join, only for Palace to pull the plug at the eleventh hour, despite the defender already wearing Liverpool training gear.
History repeated itself this summer when Liverpool failed to land Ismaila Sarr. Palace demanded £75m for the Senegalese winger, a fee that simply wasn't feasible for the Reds.
That leaves Liverpool's hopes of signing Wharton hanging in the balance. If Palace remain this stubborn, securing his signature could prove another costly and complicated saga.
Liverpool's need to buy a midfielder explained
With or without Wharton, the Reds do have to have some big preparations for the future of their midfield.
The defence and the attack have undergone a transformation in the last couple of transfer windows. It feels like both are well-set up for the future with only a couple of additions missing.
That's the opposite for the midfield where uncertainty looms. Alexis Mac Allister has been in great form but right now his fellow midfielders, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are struggling.
Ironically it's Mac Allister who doesn't know whether he is going to be offered a contract extension whereas the other two are already on long-term deals. There's talk Liverpool could already be making their move to sign Lamine Camara in the January window.
Trey Nyoni is Liverpool's own Adam Wharton
But what if Liverpool don't even need to enter the transfer market? In the last few weeks, Trey Nyoni is making it abundantly clear that the Reds can find their solutions from within.
Over the last few games, Nyoni has emerged as one of Liverpool's best players. His composure on the ball and ability to send line-breaking passes are outstanding.
It's exactly what the Reds have wanted in their midfield since the departure of Thiago and Fabinho. It's why Wharton has been sought out by the club.
But Nyoni might just be the answer instead. He made 14 line-breaking passes against Arsenal and 11 passes into the opposition's final third.
Those are Wharton esque numbers, and the fact that he did it against the Champions of the Premier League proves that Nyoni has arrived.
