Liverpool's performances this season have been a tad ropey.

They're fifth in the Premier League with their most recent game ending in a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

And, while Liverpool weren't the favourites going into that game, they still should have done better than they did.

If they'd have performed even half as well as they can, things would have been massively different.

Obviously, that wasn't how things were supposed to end up and, with the January transfer window now just around the corner, many changes are expected to take place.

Liverpool may want to sign Morgan Gibbs-White as their Florian Wirtz replacement

Recently, a lot of questions have been asked about what the future has in store for Florian Wirtz at Liverpool.

Before Alexander Isak was signed on deadline day last season, the German was the Reds' most expensive signing ever.

Most people expected the former Bayer Leverkusen man to fill the creative void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure and, while he did chip in with 10 assists for his teammates, everyone expected a lot more from the 23-year-old.

This season, things don't seem to have changed all that much and, even though Wirtz is being used in his preferred position of number 10, he's still failing to meet expectations.

Because of this, rumours have started to emerge with Liverpool even being linked with a move for Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of the January transfer window.

"Morgan Gibbs-White is considered one of the most attainable attacking midfield options for Manchester United," Ekrem Konur wrote.

"Interest in the Nottingham Forest star remains strong, with Tottenham and Liverpool also keeping a close eye on his situation.

"Within Manchester United's transfer plans, Gibbs-White is viewed as a more realistic target compared to several alternative options."

Morgan Gibbs-White would be a perfect transfer for Liverpool

Right now, Liverpool are struggling.

Every single area of their squad has a player or two that could do with upgrading but, with how much money they've already spent on players, a priority list needs to be made.

Whether Liverpool believe that midfield or defence is their biggest problem, change has to occur.

Their lack of homegrown players in addition to their poor performances have led to them staying at the same level they were last term despite spending over £150 million on new players in the summer.

Of all the recent links that have emerged about Liverpool. Gibbs-White makes a lot of sense.

Not only is his best position as a number 10 but, he's also homegrown so that helps solve another issue that the Reds have.

Wirtz may have bagged 85 goals across the entirety of his career but, with the form that Gibbs-White is in this term, Liverpool adding him to their ranks would be a huge deal and would help improve their squad massively.
