Future of Liverpool’s most important player confirmed after major transfer news emerges

Liverpool finally got their first win of the Premier League season under their belt on Friday.

Andoni Iraola led his men to a 2-0 win against the recently promoted Ipswich and, while Liverpool should have easily beaten them, the fact that they did it with such ease was a nice surprise.

Recently, the Anfield outfit looked like they were lacking identity but, after Friday's win, it finally feels like the Reds could be getting back to their best.

Obviously, it's still early days so things could definitely change but, as long as Iraola continues to drill his style of football into his first-team squad, they'll eventually come out on top.

However, even though the transfer window has just slammed shut, talk of the Reds' next dealings are already being shared and now, the future of their most important player is under scrutiny.

Cody Gakpo could be on his way out of Liverpool as they're still eyeing a move for Ismaila Sarr

One of the main priorities that Liverpool had during the 2026-27 summer transfer window was to find a replacement for Mohamed Salah, or, at the very least, strengthen their attack.

By doing this, they'd have been able to work on the mistakes that they made last term and would be able to try and improve their ranking in the Premier League.

Indeed, Liverpool did end up adding Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz to their ranks but, alongside players joining them, many were linked with moves away.

And, up until the final hours of deadline day, nobody actually knew what Liverpool's squad was going to look like so, it's hardly surprising to see decisions potentially already being made about the upcoming January transfer window.

In fact, a recent update from Football Insider seems to have all but confirmed the future of Cody Gakpo.

"Liverpool will consider making another move to sign Ismaila Sarr in January after failing to agree a deal before the summer deadline, sources have told Football Insider," they shared.

"Sarr was a target for the Reds throughout the transfer window after impressing for Crystal Palace over the last few seasons.

"Andoni Iraola wanted to add quality and depth to his attacking ranks following Mo Salah's departure.

"Bradley Barcola arrived in a move worth £120million before the deadline, and they remained hot on the trail of Sarr but failed to get a deal done.

"Sarr still wants to join Liverpool and he will stay on their radar in the months to come."

Liverpool cannot replace Cody Gakpo with Ismaila Sarr anymore

When Sarr was being linked with a Liverpool transfer, there was a mixed reaction from fans.

However, the common consensus was that as long as the price was right, the deal could be good for Liverpool as, not only is he a natural right-winger but he's also got plenty of Premier League experience under his belt.

In the end, Crystal Palace demanded too much money for his transfer which led to Liverpool dropping out of the race for the Senegal international and resulted in them pulling the plug on Gakpo's move to Manchester City or Tottenham.

At the time, Liverpool turning down around €100 million for the Dutchman was seen as insane to some fans but, now that he's here. they'll probably be glad he's stayed put.

Since the start of the 2026-27 season, he's easily been Liverpool's most important player as he's even managed to contribute to more goals than he's played so far.

Of course, we don't know how well Sarr is going to do upon his return from action but, with the current run of form Gakpo is in, there's no way that Iraola should even be considering the exit of Gakpo under any circumstances.
