Exclusive: Julian Ward lines up surprise move for RB Leipzig star
Liverpool are once again looking at a Red Bull prospect.
Whether it's RB Leipzig or Red Bull Salzburg over the last decade the Reds have made a habit of shopping from the two respective clubs.
From Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino, Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai. Not to mention Sadio Mane first caught the eye of club scouts at Red Bull Salzburg, too.
They came close to adding another Red Bull player to their squad last summer. Liverpool were desperate to bring in Yan Diomande. He was the club's first choice.
And for a while it seemed like Diomande wanted the move to Anfield as well. But then the cajoling voice of Paris Saint Germain and subsequently Real Madrid came calling.
Ultimately, it was impossible for Diomande to refuse.
Liverpool are building for the future
The Reds have had to move on. Even though it's really easy to dwell on just how good of an addition Diomande would have been. He is now catching the eye for Real Madrid.
There is nothing the Reds can do about that.
They have some special wingers, too. Rio Ngumoha for one and there is also the exciting prospect of Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz.
The club has players like Joshua Abe coming through, too. No doubt they will have other targets as well.
Ward will have further priorities heading into the next few transfer windows as well. The full-back situation for one. The midfield still has some question marks.
And there is a goalkeeping question to figure out as well.
Julian Ward wants Liverpool to sign RB Leipzig goalkeeper
It is looking increasingly likely that Alisson Becker will be moving to pastures new. The Brazilian is unlikely to extend his contract at Liverpool.
The Reds have prepared in advance by signing Giorgi Mamardashvili. Lucca Brughmanns is also set to join the club next summer from KRC Genk.
Meanwhile, Armin Pecsi is catching the eye on loan in the Austrian Bundesliga.
However, Anfield Watch can exclusively reveal that if Alisson departs Liverpool intend to buy another goalkeeper.
It is understood that one of the goalkeeper's on Liverpool's shortlist is RB Leipzig's current shotstopper, Maarten Vandevoordt.
The towering 6'4 goalkeeper has previously been likened to Thibaut Courtois and has caught the attention of Liverpool's scouts with his performances this season.
