Liverpool's transfer business over the last couple of years has been fairly solid.

Indeed, there are still some players who have question marks hanging over their heads but, the vast majority of their signings have lived up to the standards expected of them.

Of course, some such as Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong could be doing better than they are but, there's still plenty of time for them to prove their worth.

And, with the January transfer window now just around the corner, even more change could be afoot.

So many deals have already been made and agreed by Liverpool this season but, they could be about to face a new transfer threat for one of their star men.

Internacional Porto Alegre want to re-sign Alisson from Liverpool

Alisson has been one of Liverpool's best players over the last few years.

The Brazilian has singled-handedly earned the Reds some vital points during the last couple of seasons with the team often being noticeably worse without him between the sticks.

Indeed, others such as Caoimhin Kelleher and Giorgi Mamardashvili have tried to plug the gap left by Alisson, but, neither of them have ever been on the same level.

Because of this, Liverpool chose to extend his contract for one more season.

And, now that we're almost halfway through the 2026-27 campaign, questions are once again being asked about the future of the 34-year-old with TuttoMercatoWeb now throwing another new team who want to sign Alisson into the mix.

"Also looming in the transfer window is competition from Internacional Porto Alegre, the club where Alisson grew up and to which he remains deeply attached, having previously expressed a desire to return," they wrote.

"Having joined Liverpool in 2018, the Brazilian goalkeeper has played a key role in winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League title."

Liverpool cannot let Alisson go without having his replacement ready

As mentioned, Alisson has been one of Liverpool's most important players throughout the last few years.

Without him between the sticks, it's unclear how well Liverpool would have actually done or whether they'd have even won as much as they have.

But, now that he's getting into the twilight stages of his career, it makes sense why Liverpool are looking at replacing him.

Admittedly, he's managed to keep his injuries under control this season which is a massive bonus but, his injury history cannot be ignored.

Mamardashvili was probably expected to take over from the Brazilian at the end of the current season but, with how poorly he's performed, it's clear that the Reds now need another option at their disposal.

If they don't, they could be in serious trouble and hinder themselves even more.

Here's hoping that a decision can be made about the future of their goalkeeping department soon.
