Club confirms that Liverpool could have sensation in their squad by January

Somewhat surprisingly, Liverpool made plenty of changes to their ranks this summer.

Indeed, fans knew that moves needed to be made but, after their £450 million spend last term, most people were unsure about how much money FSG would've been willing to spend.

If Bradley Barcola hadn't joined, the window would've been an absolute travesty but, since his £100 million + move was confirmed, the Reds' spending was high again.

Despite the Frenchman's arrival, new players are still needed before it feels like the Reds are definitely ready to challenge for silverware again.

Of course, they'll still be seen as one of the Premier League's biggest teams but, unless Andoni Iraola manages to get his players performing to the standards expected of them soon, they could be left behind by their rivals.

The fact that some fans already have half an eye on the January transfer window is rather worrying but, for Liverpool, they could already have another deal lined up.

Lucca Brughmans can be recalled by Liverpool in January

Lucca Brughmans was the last deal that Liverpool confirmed on transfer deadline day.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper was signed for £30 million from KRC Genk with the view that he could eventually be Liverpool's number one.

The 'keeper has been Genk's number one for some time now and, although there are parts of his game that are still raw, the fact that Iraola has chosen to spend £30 million on him proves how good he believes the 6'7 giant can become.

Before his return to Genk was confirmed, there was talk of Liverpool moving Giorgi Mamardashvili on with Nottingham Forest among the teams interested in acquiring his services.

In the end, the Georgian chose to stay at Anfield and fight for his place.

However, as per a fresh update from KRC Genk, it's clear that Liverpool aren't fully convinced by Mamardashvili as, by the time January comes around, Liverpool have a recall clause in Brughmans deal that could see him return to L4 as early as January.

"Lucca Brughmans is taking a major step in his young career. The 18-year-old goalkeeper will move from KRC Genk to Liverpool FC after this season," they shared via X.

"Liverpool FC retains the option to bring him to Anfield as early as January. Though the chance is slim that they will exercise that option then."

Giorgi Mamardashvili must get his act together before Lucca Brughmans returns to Liverpool

The main player who should be worried about this deal for Brughmans is Mamardashvili.

The fact that Liverpool were considering getting rid of the Georgian due to the arrival of the Belgian should be massively concerning for him.

When he was signed as Caoimhin Kelleher's successor, he probably thought that he'd have a free run at being Liverpool's starting goalkeeper.

But, in the 20 games that he played during the 2025-26 campaign, there genuinely wasn't a single stand-out performance from him.

His shot-stopping was poor and his distribution was even worse.

Each of these areas of a goalkeepers game are massively important and, if he can't improve his performance levels, he's going to be left behind and replaced.

Brughmans is obviously likely to come back next summer rather than in January but, if Oliver Glasner decides that he wants to make a move for Mamardashvili in January and the Georgian hasn't gotten any better, he could end up losing his place at Liverpool.
