Andoni Iraola has just said exactly what every Liverpool fan wants to hear
The Andoni Iraola era is well and truly underway at Liverpool.
The Spaniard made his first appearance as the Reds' new head coach in front of the media on Monday afternoon and gave an insight into how he sees things going at L4 this season.
The Reds have already made a couple of changes with Victor Munoz being their first arrival of the summer.
Strengthening their attack is one of the main thigs that the Reds need to do this summer, especially as Mohamed Salah has now left.
However, there are also some other areas among their ranks that could do with an upgrade or two.
But, in order for this to happen, some sales may need to be made with Iraola seemingly already confirming the future of one Liverpool star.
Andoni Iraola has said that he wants to keep Curtis Jones at Liverpool
Curtis Jones was not one of the players that Arne Slot chose to trust during his time in charge of the Anfield outfit.
The Englishman was often left on the sidelines unless he was needed at right-back.
This is, despite players such as Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister being among the Reds' worst performers during the 2025-26 season.
Jones' lack of appearances led to him seeking an exit this summer but, now that Iraola is at the helm rather than Slot, talk about his departure has died down.
Inter Milan and Nottingham Forest are the two most-linked teams with the 25-year-old at the moment but, after what Iraola said at his press conference on Monday, it seems like he could be staying put.
"I rate Curtis very highly. For me he is a great player. It’s very important he’s Scouse, that he’s from here," he said.
"I also like the personality. I hope we can keep him, not only for this year, more time."
Liverpool fans will be happy about keeping Curtis Jones at Anfield
As Iraola said, Jones is one of the only Scousers left in the team.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has exited and, even though there are Scousers in the youth ranks who look ready to step up, it's unclear whether they'll have a regular role or not.
So, keeping Jones around as the only Scouser seems like a rather smart thing to do.
And, the fact that Liverpool perform an awful lot better on the pitch when he's involved proves how good he actually is.
If Jones had more than a year left on his contract, he'd easily be worth over £50 million but, since his deal expires in June 2027, Inter are trying to get him for a cut-rate fee.
So, the fact that they are continuing to low-ball Liverpool makes it feel like the Englishman could actually stay, especially now Iraola is at the helm.
Of course, there's still a lot of time left in the transfer window but, at the moment, it certainly feels like the 25-year-old could end up staying and getting offered a new deal.
