Unhappy £35m Liverpool midfielder heading to Inter Milan

Liverpool look set to shakeup their midfield this summer.

Arne Slot has been relying on the same cast of midfield characters for a couple of seasons now. And it’s clear the Dutch head coach is getting diminishing returns from some of them.

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have been a long way beneath their Premier League title-winning form - leading to speculation that new faces will arrive.

Lamine Camara, Eduardo Camavinga and Adam Wharton are among the names linked with a move to the outgoing Premier League champions. And for new recruits to be accommodated in midfield surely some current performers would have to leave.

Wataru Endo is out of contract in 2027 and it may be tempting for sporting director Richard Hughes to cash in.

Has Jones played his final game for Liverpool?

And one more player who looks destined for the exit is Curtis Jones. The 25-year-old scored in the final game of the season - a 1-1 draw against Brentford at Anfield.

But an uncertain contract situation has plunged Jones’ immediate future into doubt - and he has been unable to win a consistent place in Arne Slot’s XI as a starter.

Jones is out of contract in 2027 and talks are at a standstill over a new deal. The Reds entertained interest from Inter and Tottenham in the January transfer window but ultimately decided against an exit for the England international.

But the writing now looks on the wall for Jones’ career at his boyhood club as Paul Joyce reveals his potential next destination.

According to the trusted insider writing in the Times Jones is a target for Italian champions Inter Milan and comes with a £35m price tag.

Unhappy Jones wanted by Inter

“When Jones was the young kid who joined Liverpool at under-nine level, any goal in front of the Kop would have been a dream,” he writes.

“Here, he could not even find it within himself to celebrate in the 58th minute or even raise a smile. He is coveted by Inter Milan and is valued at £35million.”

As he is a homegrown player all of that money would go down as “pure profit” - giving Richard Hughes a decent supply of cash heading into the summer transfer window.

It’s been a very frustrating season for Jones - who has looked good in the Champions League in particular.

However the playmaker just cannot seem to get into Slot’s thinking on a regular basis - as a midfielder at least. He has been playing right-back towards the backend of the season - not his favourite position by any means.

And he looks certain to leave in order to get the minutes he believes he deserves in his favourite position. Spurs are still a team to watch but Serie A could well be the next destination for Curtis Jones.
