Chelsea give Liverpool late chance to agree elite midfielder deal

Chelsea appear to have gifted a golden opportunity to Liverpool. The Reds have a chance to sign an elite midfielder.

Liverpool need to sign a midfielder before that window shuts. They were ridiculously open against Newcastle United, highlighting just how bad they are at controlling the middle of the pitch.

Though, these are not new problems. Anfield Watch has highlighted them since at least the start of the year: there's a lack of control in there, even if the midfield options are good individually.

Signing someone who can lock down the middle is a must. We'd eager for Liverpool to find the right player and while that will be a struggle so late in the day, it's certainly not impossible.

Especially when there's a genuinely brilliant option available in Lamine Camara. We're huge fans of his, as explained here, and would love to see him join Liverpool.

And above all: he's available! Securing a deal for the right player is a nightmare so late in the window but Monaco are actively looking to sell. Reports, such as from Foot Mercato, make it clear that he's been offered to Liverpool and Chelsea.

Chelsea, though, can't move yet. They're waiting to sell Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City and only then would they sign Camara.

That's according to Matt Law and it provides Liverpool with a real opportunity here. They can steal a march on Chelsea, snapping up Camara before the Blues can even sort out their interest.

And in doing so, Liverpool would bag one of the best young midfielders in Europe.

He's a special talent and while we're not suggesting he should be purchased off the back of a couple of scatter charts, we can say that he offers the kind of all-around midfield game Liverpool are after.
