Wow, English wonderkid is coming to replace Florian Wirtz
An exciting wonderkid is coming to replace Florian Wirtz, and wow he's special.
For one reason or another, things just haven't worked out for the German at Anfield. Liverpool have seen glimpses of what they thought they bought, but not enough.
Glimpses are simply not what you expected when you spend over £100m on a player who has been regarded as a generational talent.
Wirtz was seen as a future Ballon d'Or winner. He is regarded as someone who can win it all and become one of the best players on the planet.
Right now, he's not showing any of that. You can argue the system doesn't suit him, or that he's not getting the ball in the right areas. But there are only so many excuses you can make.
Why Florian Wirtz is actually struggling at Liverpool
The reality is simple. Wirtz has not been good enough. That is the bottom line. All the arguments making excuses for him overlook the simple fact that he does get the ball in the right areas, he could be a threat but he just isn't.
Why?
Well the truth is probably that Wirtz's struggles are more in his head rather than anything in the physical tangible realm.
The truth is that he has all the quality in the world to become a world-class player. He is a world-class player when he is in great form.
However, right now it appears he is struggling with his confidence. There appears to be a mental barrier in the way he plays, something holding him back.
And that something is probably him not actually believing in himself. It needs to change.
Josh Sonni-Lambie is coming to replace Wirtz
Of course, the world of football is extremely cut-throat. Wirtz is already being dismissed as a flop, and it remains to be seen how long he has left.
When you're struggling at a club like Liverpool, there will always be people wanting to take your place, and it looks like one youngster is desperately closing in on replacing him.
Sonni-Lambie has been catching the eye at academy level since the start of last season. He is someone who can play both as a no.9 and as a no.10 and earlier this week he was included in Liverpool's first-team squad for the first time in a competitive game.
He might not have got on the pitch against LASK. However, his involvement is a sign that he is coming, and very much closing in on the senior team.
In the process, he will also be coming to replace Wirtz. After all, right now that is the clearest way for him to get a place in the starting line-up.
