It is still early days in Andoni Iraola’s reign as Liverpool manager, but the first few months have lacked consistency.

The Reds have only lost once under the Spaniard, but the team have struggled to find the high level of performance they have shown glimpses of on a consistent basis.

Sunday’s disappointing capitulation to Manchester City was followed up by an impressive 6-3 win over LASK on Wednesday night, the perfect example of the ups and downs Liverpool have experienced this season.

There are several individuals in Iraola’s side that have struggled the most with inconsistency, and one is now being targeted for a massive move.

Bayern Munich lining up move for £100m Liverpool star

Florian Wirtz arrived at Anfield to great fanfare in the summer of 2025, but the young German hasn’t lived up to the hype.

After signing for a then-British record transfer fee of £115 million, the pressure was always going to be immense on the playmaker, but Wirtz has struggled to adapt to the Premier League despite being heavily trusted by both Iraola and his predecessor Arne Slot.

Now, Bayern Munich reportedly believe that a deal can be done that would see Wirtz swap Merseyside for Munich and the Bundesliga champions are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.

That’s according to a report from TEAMtalk, which revealed internal discussions taking place in Bavaria about a potential move for Wirtz.

The discussions are purely exploratory at this stage, with official contact not yet made between the clubs and Liverpool still adamant that they will persevere with their £115 million man.

It certainly seems likely that the club would want to at least recoup the massive outlay they committed on Wirtz, which would be a record fee for the Bundesliga.

There are no signs that the German is close to losing his place in Iraola’s starting XI, so he will still have every opportunity to prove his worth at Anfield, but if Liverpool remain unconvinced by his progress come January or the summer then a sizeable offer from Bayern Munich could be enough to tempt them to sell.

Bayern will be watching on closely as internal discussions continue, but Wirtz’s days as a Red could be numbered.
