Talks set; Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola to meet with star shortly
New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola will meet with one star ahead of the new season. Talks are set.
Liverpool are going through another summer of change. Arne Slot is out as head coach and Andoni Iraola is in - that naturally shakes things up.
But it’s bigger than that. Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate are also leaving the club, while it’s rumoured that Curtis Jones may join them through the exit door.
We can’t even be sure that the departures stop there. Federico Chiesa is another one with an incredibly unclear future as he’s yet again linked with a return to Serie A.
Chiesa has had a torrid time at Liverpool as far as opportunities go. Slot started him in just two Premier League matches across two full seasons and his total number of league minutes sum to around five full matches.
But it appears that Iraola’s arrival changes things. Chiesa had been set on leaving Anfield for a new club but the Athletic now reports that he’ll sit down with the new head coach.
The Italian wants to know if he’ll get proper opportunities at Liverpool under Iraola. If he will, he’d prefer to remain with the club for another season.
Talks are now set and they’ll ultimately confirm Chiesa’s future, one way or another.
Federico Chiesa: Situation Summary
Liverpool Career and Performance
As of 16 June 2026, Federico Chiesa is a 28-year-old winger for Liverpool FC. Since making his high-profile move from Juventus to Anfield in August 2024, the dynamic Italian forward has experienced a turbulent time in England. The 2025/26 campaign saw him restricted to 24 appearances across all competitions due to persistent fitness issues. Despite these setbacks, he contributed four goals and five assists, showing flashes of his explosive pace and technical quality to help Liverpool secure another Premier League title under Arne Slot, though he remains eager to secure a more permanent starting role next season.
International Status and World Cup Involvement
Chiesa is currently a notable absentee from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. After the Italy national team sensationally failed to qualify for the tournament during UEFA's playoff rounds, the winger remained behind in Europe. He is utilising the summer break to focus entirely on full physical rehabilitation and pre-season preparation.
