Richard Hughes may be on his way out of Anfield this summer but, that hasn't stopped him from making moves to bolster Liverpool's ranks.

The Reds are in desperate need of new players and, without them, it feels like they could do even worse than they did during the 2025-26 season.

Indeed, Andoni Iraola is now the man in charge but, Liverpool changing their manager won't instantly solve things.

Of course, the Spaniard's new ideas and his way of playing will certainly help turn things around but, without a fair few new faces being brought in, things could go south and Iraola's reign could be over before it even starts.

And, even though the Reds clearly need new players, it seems like they're not going to just buy anyone for the sake of it as, the club have seemingly just ruled out a move for one of their long-term targets.

Liverpool believe that €50m is too much for Khephren Thuram

Liverpool's midfield is one of their main areas that needs upgrading this summer.

Several members of their first-team squad performed poorly last season and, since Curtis Jones' future is still up in the air, there's now a massive void that need to be filled.

One of the main things that the Reds need to do is secure deals for players who are going to improve their ranks, rather than just bring in players to strengthen their depth.

That's why most fans believed that Khephren Thuram would be an ideal addition.

Before he joined Juventus, Liverpool wanted to sign him but, in the end, the Old Lady beat the Reds to his signature.

Despite the Anfield outfit getting snubbed, they've never stopped eyeing a move for him and now, Juventus have set their asking price for the Frenchman.

But, for Liverpool, it seems like the Serie A giants are asking for too much.

"It's no coincidence that work is underway in Turin these days to complete the sale of Khephren Thuram," Tuttosport wrote.

"The Frenchman, in fact, is no longer considered unsellable, and Juventus is working hard to find him a place in the Premier League, where United, Liverpool, and Nottingham Forest have expressed interest.

"Rumors suggest the Bianconeri are asking for €50 million, which is considered off-market by the interested clubs."

Liverpool must figure out who their priority targets are this summer

Before the 2026-27 summer transfer window even opened, most Liverpool fans expected a new midfielder to be on top of their priority list.

However, with Jones still at the club and others such as Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch performing well at the World Cup, the Reds' tone seems to have changed a bit.

Of course, some fresh legs are needed to spruce things up a bit and to potentially get Gravenberch into a more natural position but, now that they're saying €50 million is too much for Thuram, it's unclear what they want from the window.

They obviously don't have an endless amount of money to spend after they splashed over £450 million last summer but, it feels like they should still have a decent chunk of change to play with.

There's obviously no knowing what plans Hughes and Iraola have for the rest of the summer but, if they don't bring the players that they want in soon, the Spaniard could find himself in a similar position to Arne Slot where he has to wait until deadline day before his squad is complete.

Indeed, this could lead to slightly cheaper deals but, for the harmony of the squad, it's far from the best thing to do.
