Medical now booked as Liverpool deal edges closer
Liverpool now have less than two weeks to get all the transfers that they need to complete over the line.
The 2026-27 summer transfer window is going to slam shut at the end of August and, while changes have been made to the Reds' first-team squad, some more are still needed.
That is, especially if they're wanting to start competing for silverware once again.
However, with all the new additions that Liverpool still need to make, it's obvious that some players are going to have to be moved on.
Without this happening, there's barely going to be any room in Iraola's plans for new players to make an impact.
That's why, despite there being less than two weeks left of the transfer window, many more changes are expected to occur at Anfield.
Curtis Jones' medical with Inter Milan is now booked in
As mentioned, several players from Liverpool's first-team squad have already been linked with moves away this summer.
Calvin Ramsay is on the verge of joining St. Mirren with Tottenham Hotspur also still lurking for Cody Gakpo.
And, with just a short amount of time left until the window shuts, you'd expect these sorts of deals to be ironed out fairly sharp-ish.
However, one move that has seemed to drag on forever is Curtis Jones' switch to Inter Milan.
For the last 18 months, the Serie A outfit have shown an interest in acquiring the services of the Englishman.
But, due to to the gap between the price that Liverpool want and the price that Inter wanted to pay, these talks never really got off the ground.
Miraculously, this summer, a final agreement was reached and now, according to Sky Italy journalist Gianluca di Marzio, Jones' medical is set to take place at 12pm on Friday.
"Curtis Jones' medicals are scheduled for Friday, August 21st: at 12:00 the midfielder will be at the CONI centre for his fitness test," he wrote.
"Inter have now finalized the deal for Curtis Jones, as we've been covering step by step, and the 2001-born midfielder is expected in the city.
"Tomorrow, Friday, August 21st, the English player will undergo a medical before traveling to the CONI Sports Medicine Center at 12:00 PM to obtain his sports eligibility. After that, it will be time for the signings and the official announcement."
Liverpool must figure out what they want their squad to look like before the transfer window slams shut
Before the summer transfer window opened, Liverpool were expected to make many changes across the board.
And, while at the start of the window they managed to do that, since then, the rumours and signings have slowed down.
Of course, the Paris Saint-Germain double deal for Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola looks like it could still be on but, until those deals are confirmed, they can't be banked on as realistic options.
However, the fact that Jones' medical is booked for Friday almost certainly means that he won't play any part in the Reds' season this term.
Trey Nyoni and James McConnell have been mooted as potential options to plug the gap that Jones leaves behind and, while both central midfielders have a lot of potential to fulfil, it's unclear whether they're ready to make the step up to the Premier League yet.
Indeed, they could both end up surprising everyone and end up having a season like Rio Ngumoha last term but, realistically, they'll only be able to play bit-part roles which, at this moment in time, isn't what Liverpool need.
Time will obviously tell whether this was a good move for Liverpool or not but, from the outside, it looks like an absolute car crash of a move, despite the 10 per cent sell-on clause that they managed to negotiate.
