Liverpool have reached an agreement with Inter Milan over Curtis Jones.

The homegrown midfielder departs Anfield a double Premier League winner with the Italian champions paying around £30m including bonuses and add-ons.

Richard Hughes has also inserted a 10 percent sell-on in the deal - meaning Liverpool may once again cash in on the playmaker down the line.

The 2024/25 Premier League champions were facing increasing pressure over Jones due to his short contract duration. The England international last renewed his deal back in 2022 - taking him to a reported £50k per week exclusive of bonuses.

Liverpool bank £30m for Jones deal

Jones and the club have been unable to come to terms over a new deal ever since then - leading to a somewhat inevitable parting of the ways.

£30m is a decent bit of business considering Jones was well into the final year of his contract. There was half a chance of a fresh start under Andoni Iraola with the Basque tactico intent on giving all his players a chance to impress.

It’s fair to say Jones didn’t grasp his chance - falling out with Dominik Szoboszlai onfield at the end of a friendly against Wrexham and failing to impress in a poor 45 minutes against Leeds United.

Jones earns big Inter Milan pay rise

He hasn’t been spotted since then - officially sitting out the last two matches with a hip injury. With the finishing line in sight Jones will be excited about the prospect of gaining significant first-team football at San Siro under Cristian Chivu.

And the six-cap playmaker will also be raking in a LOT more money according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian transfer expert has followed this deal every step of the way - and is reporting that Jones will be making €3.5m net per annum over the course of a five-year contract with the Nerazzurri.

Curtis Jones will be making £115k per week

“Documents exchanged and signed, everything confirmed,” the report reads.

“The contract will be for five years at €3.5 million net, a deal worth €30 million plus €5 million in bonuses and a 10% interest on any future resale.

“Authorization to travel has been granted: medical examinations to follow.”

That means Jones will be set for a more than double-your-money move to Serie A - with his new contract working out at around £115k per week gross.

Whether Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes should have matched those terms is a conversation for another day.

Instead the Scot exec tied up renewals for other midfielders first including Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and even fringe man James McConnell.
