Liverpool have been knocked back in their opening attempt to prise Yan Diomande away from RB Leipzig.

Last week it was claimed by various sources that the outgoing Premier League champions made an offer worth up to €100m for the Ivorian supertalent.

But with their teenage attacker safely under contract until 2030 the Red Bull-owned club declined to do business.

It is believed that the Bundesliga side would like a fee approaching the German top flight’s transfer record before parting ways with the 19-year-old.

Diomande convinced by Liverpool blueprint

The benchmark is the £128m Barcelona paid to Borussia Dortmund for Ousmane Dembele back in 2017. Despite the setback Liverpool are CONVINCED that Diomande wants a move to Anfield according to a new report in TEAMtalk.

Liverpool higher-ups have outlined to the young African superstar’s entourage that they view him as the long-term successor to Mohamed Salah on the right side of the attack.

That destiny is understood to have appealed to Diomande - who is currently starring for Cote d’Ivoire at the FIFA World Cup in North America.

“Liverpool are growing increasingly confident that Yan Diomande wants to move to Anfield,” the report reads.

“That belief is a major reason why they continue to push so aggressively for the RB Leipzig starlet.

“Diomande’s representatives have been presented with a detailed vision of how the club sees his future and the role he would play in the years ahead.

“Liverpool view him as the long-term successor to Mohamed Salah on the right flank and that message has resonated with Diomande.”

Diomande will get massive salary increase

Diomande is reported by BILD to be making around £33k per week on his initial Leipzig contract - signed when he joined from Leganes back in 2025.

Liverpool are ready to make a huge improvement on that number - far outstripping what Leizpig would be able to offer.

“Liverpool have already outlined a six-year contract, and there is a belief that the financial package on offer would be difficult for Leipzig to match, even with a lucrative extension proposal of their own,” the report reads.

Leipzig have got plans to keep Diomande

Red Bull remain determined to keep hold of Diomande at least for another year. They have recently re-qualified for the UEFA Champions League and want him on board for next season’s campaign.

A decent World Cup - combined with a starring role in the Champions League - would serve to drive Diomande’s price even higher.

Leipzig in the event of a sale will want to get as much money as possible for this deal - but Liverpool can take encouragement from the suggestion that Anfield remains Diomande’s preference.
