He's the one: Paul Joyce names Liverpool's summer transfer priority

Liverpool shook up their strike line with several big-name arrivals last summer.

Hugo Ekitike came on board for £69m and Richard Hughes went even further in breaking the British transfer record twice. Alexander Isak was signed for £125m while Florian Wirtz was recruited for a fee that could reach £116m.

While the changes concerned the centre of the attack last season this time around it appears the wings will be getting an upgrade.

Mohamed Salah has bid farewell having reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early. It would be no surprise to see Federico Chiesa join the Egyptian King on the exit ramp with interest materialising from Serie A.

Those departures will leave Arne Slot without a proper right winger - with the focus on bringing in one–v-one quality in wide areas.

A right-footed, right-sided attacker is seen as the best route towards getting the best out of Isak - who thrived on the service of Jacob Murphy at Newcastle.

Yan Diomande linked with Liverpool

And the No1 candidate who has been linked practically all season long is Yan Diomande.

The 19-year-old Ivorian has just enjoyed his breakout season with RB Leipzig - scoring 12 times and assisting nine more in the Bundesliga.

Having arrived for a bargain £18m fee from Leganes last summer the teenage wing sensation is under contract until 2030.

That puts Leipzig in total control over his next move - and the Red Bull-operated outfit are reportedly seeking €100m to part ways with their star attacker.

There are no indications as yet as to whether or not Richard Hughes will be minded to pay that amount but one thing is now for sure.

Paul Joyce names Diomande as the priority target

Diomande is the No1 target for attacking reinforcements - as Paul Joyce in the Times reveals the young African forward as the “priority” choice.

“The RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande remains a priority,” he writes.

Joyce’s endorsement is crucial as he is one of the closest journalists to the centre of Liverpool operations. If he is dropping a name it is with good reason as an operator with intimate knowledge of the club’s workings.

Diomande’s next stop will be the FIFA World Cup with Cote d’Ivoire - and then talk will once again settle on the young dynamo’s transfer destiny.
