Mohamed Salah is no longer a Liverpool player.

Ever since his contract officially expired on June 30 the Egyptian King has been a free agent. A Liverpool player since 2017 Salah won all there is to win in the club game at Anfield - and departs with a reputation as one of the best players in the Reds’ history.

His next move will be intriguing. Fenerbahce, Roma and Juventus have all been linked with a move that would keep the 34-year-old among Europe’s elite.

Salah is demonstrating some fine form at the FIFA World Cup for the Pharaohs - scoring one and assisting two so far.

Saudi move beckons for Salah

More likely however is that Salah takes his talent to a new continent - with San Diego and Inter Miami in MLS both linked with a move as well as several teams in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Ittihad - who made a stunning attempt to sign Salah back in 2023 - are back in the hunt and Al-Hilal are also thought to be keen.

But Jeddah giants Al-Ahli have now taken a huge step towards signing Salah following an agreement to rip up the gigantic contract of Riyadh Mahrez.

Sky Sports is reporting that Al-Ahli have paid Mahrez a €14.5m clause to cancel his contract after three years in the Saudi Pro League. It leaves the former Manchester City winger free to find a new team - and opens up a gap in the Al-Ahli attack.

Al-Ahli cancel Mahrez deal

The report mentions Karim Adeyemi as a potential target but insists that Matthias Jaissle’s side have got Salah in their sights.

“Al-Ahli has inquired about the conditions of a possible transfer of Mohamed Salah,” the report reads.

“This move comes after Riyad Mahrez's official departure. The Algerian international is no longer an Al-Ahli player, as both parties reached an agreement to terminate his contract early.

“The termination reportedly cost the Saudi club €14.5 million, allowing Mahrez to become a free agent.

“At this stage, Al-Ahli has simply inquired about Salah's sporting and financial demands. No agreement has yet been reached, and discussions are still in their early stages.”

Richard Hughes rips up Salah's £400k per week deal

Salah reached an agreement with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early. Originally due to expire in 2027 Salah’s deal was cancelled after a falling out with Arne Slot.

The 2025/26 campaign hadn’t been the best one from Salah’s perspective but no doubt he remains a player of supreme quality. Let’s see what the future holds for the Reds’ iconic forward.
