Andoni Iraola pushed closer to finally signing Mohamed Salah's successor
Mohamed Salah exiting Liverpool was one of the biggest stories to emerge from Anfield this summer.
His fallings out with Arne Slot eventually became too much and, even though he had a year left on his contract with Liverpool, both the club and the Egyptian King ended up mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.
This led fans to believe that one of Liverpool's main goals in the summer would be to find his replacement and, while players such as Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz were brought in, neither of them are natural right-wingers.
Of course, both of them can be used there if needed but, Liverpool would almost certainly be better off if they brought in a natural right-winger instead.
This is why so many right-wingers are still rumoured to be of interest to Liverpool and why them now being pushed closer to signing one is good news.
Crystal Palace want to offer Ismaila Sarr a new contract
Over the summer, many different right-wingers were linked with Liverpool.
The Anfield outfit knew that they needed to reinforce their attack and, while they have managed to do that, it still feels like they're an attacker or two short.
That's why, even though fans believe that midfield should be Liverpool's priority, they're still on the look-out for attackers.
Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr felt like the two most likely options for the Reds to explore but, since neither of those deals came to fruition, talk of them ever being pulled off died down, that is, until this latest update from Sky Sports journalist Cristopher Reidy emerged.
"Crystal Palace are in talks with Ismaila Sarr’s representatives over a new deal," he wrote.
"I’m told an agreement isn’t close yet but talks have been described as positive and good-natured."
Yankuba Minteh is now likely to be pushed as Liverpool's main right-wing target
Of the two options, Liverpool's preferred choice was likely to be Minteh.
He's still rather young and, although his numbers haven't been great, Iraola has a way of getting the best out of his attackers.
However, thanks to the injury that he suffered during the summer, the Reds didn't want to match the fee that Brighton were asking just in case he came back a fraction of his former self.
But, now that a deal for Sarr looks finished, Minteh is obviously going to make his way up Liverpool's shortlist.
Again, whether Liverpool make a move for the Gambian is down to how well he performs upon his return to injury but, if everything goes according to plan, the move for Salah's successor could be reaching its end.
