Three Bournemouth players fit the bill for Andoni Iraola at Liverpool
Liverpool have secured the signing of Victor Munoz.
The 22-year-old becomes the first signing under Andoni Iraola - who has replaced Arne Slot as the Reds heas coach.
Munoz - a Spain FIFA World Cup squad member - was due to join Newcastle but Richard Hughes staged a last-minute hijack and diverted Munoz towards Anfield.
Liverpool have triggered the €40m buyout in his Osasuna contract following what is believed to be a personal intervention by Iraola.
Three Bournemouth players similar to Munoz
The 43-year-old believes his compatriot is a perfect fit for the outgoing Premier League champions’ new-look attack. Following on from his appointment the ex-Bournemouth tactico is determined to remodel the frontline in his own way.
And according to a report in TEAMtalk Liverpool have identified THREE of his former Bournemouth players who fit the bill in a similar manner to Munoz.
His Cherries’ side were renowned for their front-foot football, their tireless workrate and pressing - characteristics which will be very welcome on Merseyside.
Reds recruiters bring up names of Kluivert, Kroupi and Tavernier
“Liverpool’s recruitment staff see similarities with players such as Marcus Tavernier, Justin Kluivert and Junior Kroupi – adaptable attackers capable of fulfilling multiple functions within a fluid system,” the report reads.
“Those qualities are understood to have particularly appealed to Iraola, who has built a reputation for maximising versatile attacking players and tailoring systems around intelligent, hard-working forwards.”
Don't expect moves this summer
Liverpool have been extensively linked with a move for Eli Junior Kroupi but Bournemouth appear confident about their prospects of keeping hold of the 19-year-old this summer.
Tavernier has not appeared on any Liverpool wishlist but has become an integral part of Iraola’s teams over the last couple of seasons.
Kluivert meanwhile was tentatively linked last summer in what looked like a wild rumour but one which makes far more sense in today's context.
Liverpool will be now no doubt hoping for a similar impact from Munoz - who looks certain to provide a textbook example of what Iraola is looking for from his attackers.
