Liverpool thunder into the lead for £48m midfield powerhouse
Liverpool have been tipped to shake up their midfield options this summer.
Alexis Mac Allister is only under contract until 2028 and no negotiations exist over a new deal. If no accord is struck then Richard Hughes may listen to offers for the Argentina FIFA World Cup winner this summer.
Curtis Jones is out of contract in 2027 and to prevent the 25-year-old leaving on a free club bosses are prepared to let him join Inter Milan for around £26m.
And should one or both of those midfielders leave then Liverpool would require quantity - and quality - in the sector.
Khephren Thuram turns down Turkiye
One name tipped to come in as a replacement for Jones is France international Khephren Thuram. The 25-year-old - currently starring for Juventus - has been linked with an exit due to mounting financial trouble in Turin.
Having missed out on Champions League qualification the Old Lady of Italian football require sales. Thuram is one of their most bankable assets and although he would be a reluctant mover Juventus could well cash in for around £43m to £48m.
That’s according to a report in Sports Boom - which claims Liverpool and Manchester United are the “heavyweights” in this transfer showdown.
Liverpool and Man Utd eye up deal for Khephren Thuram
Thuram has been targetted by Turkish Super Lig pair Galatasaray and Fenerbahce but there is no chance of a deal to be done. That leaves the Premier League as the midfield dynamo’s most likely destination - with Nottingham Forest also plotting an audacious raid.
“Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have both shown strong interest in the 25-year-old French midfielder,” the report reads.
“But Thuram gave a negative response to both Turkish giants. Nottingham Forest have launched preliminary contacts with Juventus in recent hours.
“Additionally, Manchester United and Liverpool form the real heavyweights of this race.
“The Premier League giants monitor the situation of the midfielder, but whether they will submit an offer has not gained clarity yet.”
LFC enter race as favourites for Thuram
Thuram joined Juve back in 2024 from Nice - inking a deal until 2029. That leaves the Serie A side quite well protected from a transfer fee perspective.
“Thuram prefers to remain in Turin,” the report reads. “But the financial situation of Juventus will not always protect this preference.
“Juventus expects a figure in the region of €50 million to €55 million for the player.”
Jones is expected to wrap up a deal to join Inter soon - and Reds recruiters see Thuram as the ideal successor to the England international in the middle.
“Liverpool are considering Thuram as a direct replacement for Curtis Jones and are monitoring the situation closely,” the report reads.
“For Liverpool, looking for a midfielder who will add physical strength and ball-winning capacity to their system, Thuram draws an ideal profile.
“The personal preference of Thuram also remains decisive in this equation. If Juventus is forced to sell, he wants to move to the Premier League. United and Liverpool possess a clear advantage against other suitor clubs in this aspect.”
