Andoni Iraola has been installed as Liverpool head coach.

The Basque tactico impressed throughout his three seasons at Bournemouth - exiting the south coast club upon the expiry of his contract.

The 43-year-old will now be tasked with getting the best out of a squad left to him by sporting director Richard Hughes and previous head coach incumbent Arne Slot.

That will be no mean feat - with several Liverpool players beneath their 2024/25 Premier League title-winning best last season.

But if anyone can do it Iraola can - with the Spaniard overseeing huge improvements in players like Antoine Semenyo, Eli Junior Kroupi and Dean Huijsen for example at the Vitality Stadium.

Iraola can fix DarwinNunez

And according to one report in Spain Iraola even believes he can REDEEM Darwin Nunez and is convinced about signing the Uruguay international in the off-season.

Nunez, 27, left Liverpool for Al-Hilal in an initial £46m deal last summer but it’s not worked out. The former Reds’ No9 has been without first-team football since February when he was de-listed in order to make way for Karim Benzema.

Marcelo Bielsa - the Uruguay head coach - now considers Nunez “physically deteriorated” but fixing him may not be beyond the capabilities of Iraola - who played under Bielsa at Athletic Bilbao.

Bielsa: Nunez has physically deteriorated

“The key to this potential turnaround lies with Andoni Iraola,” the report reads.

“The Spanish manager believes Liverpool needs more attacking options and sees Darwin Núñez as a player who could fit his playing style.

“The Spanish coach is reportedly willing to invest in his recovery, convinced that the Uruguayan still possesses the qualities of a top-level striker.

“The idea would be to provide him with a different environment, with a plan better suited to his strengths and less focused on demanding absolute precision in every action.”

Nunez would be a bargain option for Liverpool

Nunez is set to have his contract ripped up by Al-Hilal - believed to be worth around £400k per week.

That will leave the striker free to find a new club in Europe - with Liverpool along with Chelsea and Newcastle thought to be keen.

He could cover left-wing as well as centre-forward - with Alexander Isak’s robustness under scrutiny and Hugo Ekitike out until 2027.

Let’s wait and see what the club decides - and whether or not Iraola will be given a chance to test out his Nunez-saving theories.
