Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s midfield this summer.

The club are getting diminishing returns from Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch - while Curtis Jones has been heavily linked with an exit.

Andoni Iraola requires an injection of fresh blood into the midfield - which would help restore the Reds to their perch following a drop-off last season.

Liverpool want deal for Alex Scott

Among the names associated with an Anfield arrival is Alex Scott. The 22-year-old Bournemouth midfielder established himself under Iraola on the south coast - even forcing his way into the reckoning for the England FIFA World Cup squad.

A report in talkSPORT confirms Liverpool’s interest in the £80m-rated midfielder - alongside Manchester United.

Nonetheless following the transfer setback suffered by Richard Hughes over Yan Diomande last weekend the outgoing Premier League champions better be prepared to suffer more disappointment over Scott.

Bournemouth to decide against £80m Scott deal

“Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is also on Liverpool's radar in a move that would see him work under Iraola again,” the report reads.

“However, he is valued at £80m and their rivals Manchester United are also interested.

“Furthermore, Cherries sources have doubled down on the stance that their ambitious owner Bill Foley does not want to cash in.”

Alex Scott: Situation summary

Alex Scott is Bournemouth’s 22-year-old right-footed midfielder, a press-resistant carrier who links play and drives the ball through midfield into the final third.

He has become a near-ever-present for the Cherries, underlining his importance with 37 Premier League appearances in 2025/26 and regular starts.

Stylistically, Scott suits high-tempo, possession-to-transition football because he can receive under pressure, use his body well and progress play on the move.

He is still developing end product, but his blend of ball carrying, scanning and intensity makes him one of Bournemouth’s most bankable young players.

Contractually, Bournemouth view him as a key asset: he is tied down until 2028 and the club are understood to want either a new deal or a contract upgrade.

The likely transfer destiny is a big move rather than a near-term exit, with Liverpool and other Premier League sides circling, but Bournemouth are pushing to keep him and would demand a premium.
