Curtis Jones is edging closer to a deal to join Inter Milan.

Some reports have already declared that the 25-year-old has agreed terms on a five–year deal with the San Siro giants. Some work still needs to be done on the part of the Italian champions to land a deal for the England midfielder.

Inter have offered €20m for Jones and Liverpool are standing firm on their €30m valuation. With Jones out of contract in 2027 and no sign of a new deal on the horizon it looks inevitable that a deal will be worked out.

The outgoing Premier League champions will then need to get on with their plans to REPLACE Jones in the first-team squad.

Several names have been mentioned as potential incomings - and a report in Rousing the Kop now states that Jones himself knows who’s coming.

“Jones expects Liverpool to move for targets such as Wharton or Scott who already knows Iraola,” reporter Marco Barzaghi says.

Wharton and Scott could replace Jones

“Inter’s offer is €20 million, while Liverpool’s asking price is €30 million; there is still a gap between the two sides.”

Adam Wharton, 21, has been heavily linked with a Crystal Palace exit ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

A price tag of around £100m has been mooted for the England midfielder and his tempo-setting playing style would be very welcome on Merseyside.

Jones needs to leave for first-team football

Alex Scott meanwhile has grown under Andoni Iraola’s management at Bournemouth - leading to speculation that he will follow his former mentor to Anfield.

A deal for the midfielder could fetch £80m - and it remains to be seen whether or not Richard Hughes goes in that high with a bid.

Either way Jones’ days now look numbered at Anfield - with a list of replacements appearing.

The homegrown midfielder has been unable to win a place in the starting XI on a consistent basis - and combined with his uncertain contract scenario he now looks destined for the Italian top flight.
