Liverpool have a lot of transfers to make if they want to compete for the Premier League title this season.

The Anfield outfit fell miles behind their title rivals last term and, without adding some new faces to their ranks, they're likely to do even worse.

Indeed, these moves will cost a lot of money and, since the club already spent over £450 million on new signings last summer, it's unclear how much money the Reds have in their war chest at the moment.

Liverpool's first deal for Victor Munoz didn't cost the club all that much so, if they can secure bargains like that all summer, they'll be more than fine.

But, with the transfer market as inflated as it is at the moment, £35 million deals such as Munoz's are going to be very hard to come by.

Despite this, the Reds are seemingly still capable of putting fear into their Premier League rivals with a new report sharing an update on their pursuit of a midfielder.

Newcastle are fearful of not being able to block Bruno Guimaraes from joining Liverpool

Liverpool's midfield is one of their main areas that need upgrading.

Although Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai performed fairly well, others such as Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister were beyond poor.

Their below-par performances led to many fans demanding that change was made before the 2026-27 season kicks off.

And, without hesitation, Liverpool have seemingly got to work with several players being linked with an Anfield switch every day.

In fact, a fresh report from Football Insider has just shared that Newcastle are worried about Liverpool making a bid for Bruno Guimaraes as they don't think that they'd be able to stop him from leaving St James' Park.

"Newcastle United are determined to avoid a repeat of last summer's Alexander Isak saga but could be dragged into it by Bruno Guimaraes, sources have told Football Insider," they wrote.

"The 28-year-old remains a crucial part of Eddie Howe's plans, and the Magpies are reluctant to see him leave, but growing interest from elite clubs could force their hand.

"Arsenal are the most advanced club in their interest, having seen an initial enquiry rebuffed by the Magpies, but they are not believed to have been deterred.

"As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle are now in a "difficult situation" as they struggle to cling on to their best players.

"Guimaraes could become the third major departure for Newcastle this summer, after Anthony Gordon joined Barcelona and Tottenham reached an agreement for Sandro Tonali.

"Arsenal are not the only club in the running, with Man United and Liverpool also linked, and Newcastle are now fearful they may be unable to block their advances."

Bruno Guimaraes would completely transform Liverpool's team

Even though Guimaraes is much more of a number eight than a number six, the Brazilian has played in both positions for Newcastle this season.

To be honest, wherever he is used in the centre of the park, he always makes a difference and is often one of the Magpies' stand-out performers.

The fact that he only cost Newcastle £40 million to bring in is absurd, especially since the deal was only confirmed four years ago.

Since arriving at St James' Park, he's often been linked with moves away and, he's almost certainly a better player that the standard that Newcastle have set over the last couple of years.

If he joined Liverpool, Guimaraes would easily be able to replace Mac Allister or Gravenberch and would instantly improve the Reds' ranks.

Indeed, a deal would probably cost them somewhere in the region of £100 million but, since he already has plenty of Premier League experience and also contributed to 17 goals across all competitions during the 2025-26 season, it's clear that he'd be an exceptional addition for the Reds.
