Liverpool are ready to stand back and let a highly-rated midfielder join Chelsea. The Reds won’t put up a fight.

Liverpool are currently figuring our their transfer targets for the summer. Now, we know Victor Munoz is one of them as the Reds have completed the deal to sign him, while Yan Diomande is clearly another.

An offer worth €100m has gone to RB Leipzig for Diomande. They've rejected it, however, and Liverpool must now decide what the Ivorian would truly be worth to them.

Especially when they do want to invest elsewhere. Liverpool are certainly considering their midfield options, for one, with Curtis Jones potentially leaving.

Though, it seems they won't move for Adam Wharton. Journalist Ben Jacobs tells TalkSport that while there's an appreciation for Wharton, there's no actual movement and it would be a 'surprise' if Liverpool properly entered the race.

Instead, it seems the Reds are willing for Wharton to join Chelsea or Arsenal. Jacobs mentions both clubs as interested, at least recently, in the midfielder.

Which does make us wonder what the plan is. Wharton isn't just a great player but he's one of the best homegrown options available to Liverpool - other than just keeping Curtis Jones.

The Reds are being ridiculous with their handling of the Scouser. Maybe this is a sign that things will turn around?

Adam Wharton: Situation Summary

Crystal Palace Career and Performance

As of 22 June 2026, Adam Wharton is a 22-year-old central midfielder for Crystal Palace. Since his transfer from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024, the technically gifted playmaker has rapidly established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting young talents. His intelligent distribution and composed temple control in the engine room were pivotal to the Eagles' historic domestic success, notably lifting the FA Cup in 2025 and the UEFA Conference League on 27 May 2026, where he was named in the competition's Team of the Season.

International Status and World Cup Involvement

Wharton is a senior England international who made his debut in June 2024 and earned his first competitive start in November 2025. Despite his influential domestic performances, he was a surprise omission from the final 26-man England squad for the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup. His high-level profile continues to attract heavy interest from elite suitors like Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
