Liverpool ready to complete midfield rebuild with incredible French star
Liverpool's midfield has been a bit of a wreck this season.
Curtis Jones was moved on and, even though Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have both just extended their contracts, neither of them can play alongside one another in Andoni Iraola's system.
Both players try and push forward far too often and, rather than just one of them trying to do it, they both end up going forward which leaves a huge gap for Liverpool to plug.
In addition to this, these gaps often lead to opposing players being able to go on the attack and put their team ahead which, for a team of Liverpool's calibre, is far from ideal.
This has caused many rumours to emerge and now, the perfect way for Liverpool to rebuild their midfield has emerged.
Liverpool want to make a move for Como's Lucas Da Cunha
Iraola's system heavily relies upon his double pivot working well together.
When one goes forward, one should stay back and, for most players, this is obvious.
However, for some unknown reason, this seems to be an impossible task for some of Liverpool's current crop of players so, that means that the Reds are going to have to enter the market.
Lamine Camara, Alex Scott and Marc Bernal have all been linked with a switch this summer but, thanks to an update from TuttoMercatoWeb, an even better option than any of those three seems to have emerged.
"Therefore, it's safe to assume that Liverpool (and the other Como clubs) will be carefully considering midfield options, perhaps Maximo Perrone and Lucas da Cunha, and Martin Baturina and Nico Paz in the attacking midfield," they wrote.
"The Merseyside club's firepower in the transfer market is well known, and Liverpool will continue to invest in January and the summer. And who knows, perhaps today's match will yield some interesting ideas."
Lucas Da Cunha could be the answer to all of Liverpool's midfield problems
Cunha is probably a player that most Liverpool fans won't have heard of.
The Frenchman spent the vast majority of his career in France until Cesc Fabregas signed him for Como.
While playing in Ligue 1, he wasn't really that impressive but, since moving to the Serie A, he's become one of Como's most important players.
At the moment, Fabregas' midfield is one of the best things about his squad and, without Cunha, it's unclear how well they'd actually be doing.
But for Liverpool, he'd fit right in.
His main position is as a number six and, since he's been playing in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Maximo Perrone since joining Como, he already knows how to play in that sort of system.
This is one thing that Liverpool's current first-team squad lacks as, even though Arne Slot did play them in that formation from time-to-time, the 4-3-3 is what they're mostly used to.
So, that's why bringing Cunha in could be the start of Liverpool's midfield rebuild, especially since he's still only 25 years old.
No fee for the central midfielder has been mentioned yet but, if it's any less than some of the other targets Liverpool have been linked with, then surely its a no-brainer.
