England international confirms he's ready to join Liverpool

An England international has just showed he's ready to join Liverpool.

The World Cup has now come to an end, but Liverpool are still waiting for the transfer window to truly come alive. While other clubs have started making moves and accelerating their plans, the Reds have remained relatively quiet for much of the summer.

There has been plenty of activity behind the scenes, with internal changes and long-term planning taking place, but the reality is that Liverpool's squad currently looks much thinner than it did 12 months ago.

A number of important players have already moved on, and the club is yet to properly replace them. Mohamed Salah is obviously the biggest name. Losing a player of his importance leaves an enormous hole in Liverpool's attack, and finding a long-term successor has to be one of the club's top priorities this summer.

However, Salah is not the only major issue Liverpool need to consider. The club must also begin planning for life after Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, with both players entering the final year of their current contracts. Even if they remain at Anfield beyond this season, Liverpool cannot ignore the need to prepare for the future.

There are also still question marks elsewhere in the squad. Andy Robertson's departure has left a gap at left-back, while the future of Ibrahima Konate has created further uncertainty in defence.

At the very least, Liverpool need another reliable option behind Milos Kerkez. Kostas Tsimikas' future remains unclear, and relying solely on Kerkez over a long season would represent a significant risk.

Centre-back is perhaps an even bigger concern. Liverpool need more experience and proven quality in that area, particularly with their current options behind Van Dijk and Gomez. Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are both exciting young talents with plenty of potential, but neither has played a single minute of Premier League football.

That is a lot of responsibility to place on inexperienced players at a club expected to compete for major trophies.

The challenge facing Liverpool is clear: they are not simply looking to improve the squad, they are trying to replace some of the most influential players of the modern era while also building the next generation.

The pressure is now on the recruitment team to act quickly and ensure the club does not fall behind.

Over the last few years, the Reds have lost several key centre-backs. Joel Matip was never really replaced in the squad, and neither was Jarell Quansah last summer.

Liverpool simply cannot rely on an injury prone Gomez, an ageing Van Dijk and two youngsters in Jacquet and Leoni to compete for a league title next season, or even just to be in with a chance of the top four.

Liverpool need more options than that. Someone with experience, who can also cover the right-back role would be ideal.

There's one player who is perfect for this role and he confirmed that on Saturday evening playing for England at the World Cup.

Jarell Quansah enjoyed a breakthrough tournament for England making two appearances in their run to finish in third place, including playing as a right-back on two occasions.

Liverpool already have a £70m agreement in place to buy-back Quansah from Leverkusen as per a recent report.

And their agreement goes even further. As we wrote previously, Liverpool also have a pre-agreement for a contract with Quansah if that £70m buy-back clause was triggered.

Quansah showed at the World Cup that he is exactly the profile Liverpool need. He can play as a right-back and as a centre-back and with an agreement already being in place, Quansah's performances simply just confirmed that he's also ready to join Liverpool.

It's just up to Richard Hughes to pull the trigger now.
