Liverpool were probably expecting their squad to be completed by now.

They've spent over £600 million on new players across the last couple of seasons and, if we're being honest, things still aren't great.

Multiple areas of of Andoni Iraola's squad have failed to meet the standards expected of them and have forced fans to question whether some of the players that their team have signed were even worth buying in the first place.

This thought process has led to different questions being asked about their first-team squad and has caused many players to be linked with a move.

And now, the Anfield outfit seem to have just been handed a major boost in their pursuit for one of their main targets.

Barcelona want to sign Levi Colwill which could open the door for a Ronald Araujo transfer

Ronald Araujo has arguably been one of Liverpool's best signings this season.

The Uruguayan was brought in on a season-long loan with the Reds having an option to buy worth €55 million (£45.9 million).

This may not seem like all that much money with how good the centre-back has been but, since he'll be 28 years old by the time Liverpool can activate their option to buy, it's unclear whether he'll be worth them signing or not.

Obviously, things such as his injury history also need to be taken into consideration.

But, luckily for Liverpool, a fresh update from Caught Offside has shared that Barcelona now want to sign Levi Colwill from Chelsea.

"Barcelona view Colwill as a top target after studying his performances and stats in great detail, there have been internal discussions about putting a bid together, possibly as early as this January," they wrote.

Levi Colwill could be Barcelona's replacement for Ronald Araujo

With how happy Araujo seems to be at Liverpool and how happy the Reds' fanbase seems to be with the Uruguayan, a permanent deal for him makes sense.

His ability to play as a right-back or a centre-back is massive with both of those areas major problems for Liverpool at the moment.

In fact, their whole defence could do with a re-jig.

Barca are likely to stick to their price of €55 million for Araujo but, if they manage to get a deal over the line for Colwill before then, they could become a little more lenient.

Araujo's experience is unmatched compared to some of the other players that Liverpool have been linked with.

But, only time will tell whether the Reds feel like a move for the 27-year-old is worth it.
