Which Liverpool players have been called up for international duty in March?

Following the weekend's FA Cup defeat, we face another international break with Liverpool not in action again until the end of March.

Normally a dreaded event in any season, this time around, the Reds could use some respite from games amid the rampant injury crisis to allow several key stars to continue to work on their returns to fitness.

However, the downside is that more could always come back injured...

Back in October, an awkward collision during Scotland's clash with Spain left Andy Robertson needing shoulder surgery, while the less said about Mo Salah's Africa Cup of Nations experience the better.

This international break, at least, the majority of Liverpool's stars will only be involved in friendly matches, with most competitive action on hold until the summer.

Running from 18 to 26 March, for European stars anyway, the upcoming fixtures represent the last chance to impress national team bosses before this summer's Euros in Germany.

Here's who's been called up from Liverpool so far. Come back safe!

Goalkeepers

Alisson Becker remains injured and not included in Brazil's squad for their upcoming friendlies against England and Spain.

Caoimhin Kelleher has been called up for Republic of Ireland for the friendly clashes with Belgium and Switzerland and is expected to feature after his fine club form.

Adrian has never been called up for Spain and it would be a monumental surprise if that changed at the age of 37 after a grand total of zero first-team appearances this season.

Defenders

After excelling in every single position across the backline, as well as in midfield, Gareth Southgate finally did the right thing and recalled Joe Gomez after four years out of the England squad.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's injury means Gomez is the only Liverpool representative in the Three Lions' team as they take on Brazil and Belgium this month.

However, Jarell Quansah is among those called up again for the England Under-21s.

Despite his recent fitness issues which caused him to miss last weekend's 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Ibrahima Konate is included in France's squad to face Germany and Chile. Please don't break him.

Virgil van Dijk, as captain of his country, is included in the Netherlands squad to face Germany and Scotland this month. He will likely come up against Andy Robertson, also the captain of his country (Scotland). Go easy on each other, lads!

Kostas Tsimikas is one of very few Liverpool stars involved in a meaningful fixture during the break. Greece take on Kazakhstan in their crucial Euro 2024 playoff.

Conor Bradley has been named in Northern Ireland's squad for the friendlies against Romania and Scotland.

Amara Nallo has been called up for England Under-18s.

Injuries mean there will be no call ups at any level for the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Stefan Bajcetic or Thiago.

Wataru Endo has, however, been included as captain in Japan's squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers. He'll face North Korea home and away in a spicy double header.

It's the same situation for Dominik Szoboszlai, who wears the armband for Hungary — though not in competitive circumstances this March. He is and his teammates are up against Turkey and Montenegro this month.

Like Quansah, Harvey Elliott was named in Lee Carsley's England Under-21 squad, but can feel slightly aggrieved not to have earned a call-up for the seniors given his recent form.

Alexis Mac Allister will travel with Argentina to face El Salvador and Costa Rica in friendlies hosted in the USA of all places.

Bobby Clark will be in action for the England Under-20 team to face face Poland and the Czech Republic.

Trey Nyoni joins the Three Lions Under-18s, meanwhile.

Luis Diaz is in the 26 players named for Colombia to take on Spain and Romania in exhibition matches this month.

Uruguay, meanwhile, face Ivory Coast in France but Darwin Nunez won't be a part of the squad after suffering a knock against Manchester United.

Cody Gakpo links up with Van Dijk for the Netherlands' outings. However, Mo Salah has been given an exemption to sit out Egypt's friendly tournament in the Middle East, having only just returned from injury. Phew.

Young Jayden Danns can add to his England youth appearances as he has been called up to the Under-18s for the Pinatar Super Cup in Spain.

Diogo Jota remains out of contention for Portugal with his knee injury, but young debut goalscorer Lewis Koumas has been included in Wales Under-21 squad for the first time, while Kaide Gordon links up with England Under-20s.
