Get ready: Teenage forward with huge potential is coming to Liverpool
Liverpool need more wide forwards for the coming season.
Of that there is no doubt. Transfer focus this summer has been on recruiting wingers - and there is one tick already in the box.
Because Victor Munoz has been onboarded after Richard Hughes activated the £34m clause in the Spain FIFA World Cup winner’s Osasuna contract.
More additions are required however and that fact is not lost on Reds’ decision-makers. Bids have gone in for Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh. The 2024/25 Premier League champions still have plenty of work to do in order to land those priority targets.
Liverpool need senior wingers
Barcola, 23, is surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain with Liverpool seeking to reduce the price from an eye-watering £145m.
With only two years left on his contract however all parties should soon come to an agreement which would see the France international join the Reds.
Minteh meanwhile was the subject of a £50m offer from Anfield as reported by various sources. That is not going to be enough to land the 22-year-old and Richard Hughes must act fast before the window closes.
This is a Liverpool squad very much in a state of flux with senior winger options no doubt the main focus right now.
Kieran Morrison sent on loan
It’s not the right time to integrate any more young wide forwards into the first team - as evidenced by the recent loan deal struck over Kieran Morrison.
The versatile attacker, 19, took huge strides forward in age-group football last season and played a key role for the seniors in preseason.
Rather than bringing the Northern Ireland international into the senior picture this season it was decided to offer him men’s football on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
Kieran Morrison makes Sheffield Wednesday debut
Morrison went straight into the squad for the Owls’ League One loss to Bradford City on Thursday night - featuring from the bench and showing plenty of promise.
Wednesday sporting director was full of praise for Morrison after his signing was tied up - describing the schemer as a player of “huge potential”.
“Kieran is a player with huge potential – and he has already represented his country and made his mark around Liverpool’s first team,” he said according to the club’s official website via the Sheffield Star.
“During his time with us, he will benefit from playing in front of huge crowds in a high intensity pressing team that wants to play and run forward, just like he is being asked at Liverpool.
“Equally, we hope to get the value of his quality in his time with us and send him back a better player and a better person. It was the shortest player call we have ever had – Kieran’s enthusiasm for coming here was extremely strong and he cannot wait to get started.”
Morrison inks long-term Liverpool deal
Morrison signed a new contract at Anfield before heading out on loan - evidencing the strong belief behind him inside the club. He can play attacking midfield but made a name for himself as a wide attacker last season for the under-21s.
Morrison has already played for the Liverpool first team under Arne Slot and looks destined for bigger and better things following his loan in Sheffield.
The signs are very promising - with Liverpool set to welcome an attacker with devastating potential once his temporary spell is over.
