And while deals are currently alive for both Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh it remains to be seen who ends up filling the right-wing role in the long term.

Josh Abe: A star in the making

Liverpool have got one contender who - in time - will come into contention for a starting place. Having fended off interest from Manchester City in Joshua Abe hopes are high for the 16-year-old who recently committed his future to the club.

Abe, a left-footed right-winger inked a brand new deal over the summer - and is set for an even longer extension when he turns 17.

Abe inks new Liverpool deal

One of the highest-rated talents in the youth and academy sides Abe was brought on tour for the first team to the United States and has been earmarked for select senior appearances this term.

Under Arne Slot the Salah-successor-in-waiting was called up to train with the first team - demonstrating the kind of pathway Liverpool were ready to present him with.

But any hopes of a breakthrough are going to have to be put on hold temporarily. Because Rob Page - Liverpool’s under-21 coach - has confirmed a dislocated shoulder for the outstanding young talent.

Josh Abe injury blow

"He dislocated his shoulder," under-21 coach Rob Page said according to This is Anfield after his side drew with Everton on Friday night.

"It popped out and popped back in again. Apparently, he has had this problem for a while, so it's nothing major.

"It's just something that he is having to go through. He's got his arm in a sling as a precaution and we'll wait and see what happens."

It’s not the first injury setback Abe has had in his short career thus far. He suffered a bad leg injury on international duty for England towards the back end of last season - bringing his campaign to an early halt.

The sooner he is back fit the better and he can get on with developing into the top talent he’s been predicted to become.
