Liverpool contact agents of 'fantastic' World Cup sensation

Liverpool may be one of the most well-known teams in the world but, that doesn't mean that they're one of the best.

After their 2025-26 summer transfer window, most people expected the Reds to be the team to beat.

However, thanks to the poor performances of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, Liverpool barely got out of second gear which led to them finishing fifth in the Premier League table.

This poor showing has then led to several players being linked with an Anfield move this summer.

Most areas among the Reds' ranks could do with an upgrade but, if we're being honest, improvements are needed across the board, especially if they want to start challenging for silverware again.

So, with this in mind, it's hardly surprising to see that the Anfield outfit have been in contact with a World Cup star ahead of a potential move this summer.

Liverpool have contacted Gilberto Mora's agents over a potential move

Gilberto Mora was one of the most talked-about players of the 2026 World Cup.

The 17-year-old became the second-youngest player to ever feature in the tournament with only Pele beating him.

Indeed, the 'fantastic' wonderkid may not have contributed to any goals during the tournament but, his performances still stood out among the crowd.

This is what led to the youngster being linked with some of the world's biggest clubs and now, as per a fresh update from TEAMtalk, Liverpool have made 'direct contact' with Mora's agents about a potential move this summer.

"Liverpool are understood to have made direct contact with the representatives of Mexican teenage attacker Gilberto Mora, who is rapidly emerging as one of the most sought-after talents in world football," they wrote.

"According to sources, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Benfica currently lead the pack in active interest.

"Indeed, the three clubs have initiated formal approaches to Mora’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, as they position themselves for a potential move once he turns 18 on October 14 2026.

"Arsenal and Liverpool have both been scouting strongly, with the latter understood to have made direct contact. Manchester United showed early aggressive interest, while Manchester City continue to monitor progress.

"Chelsea, meanwhile, have maintained regular check-ins with Mora’s representatives as they assess his long-term potential and his interest in becoming another youngster to join their model.

"In Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona feature prominently among the admirers."

Gilberto Mora would be a solid signing for Liverpool

Mora would certainly be more of a future signing rather than one to make an instant impact.

However, with the way that Liverpool's transfer business has been heading this term, it feels like it's a move that the Reds could genuinely make.

The Mexico international is already an extremely versatile player who has been used all across the front three and as a number 10.

However, since he's still just 17 years old, he obviously wouldn't be a regular starter for the Reds.

But, as a back-up option with plenty of potential to fulfil, Mora could be the perfect candidate for Liverpool.

And, with the way that their transfer business has gone over the last few years, buying players with a massive amount of potential is certainly one of their main criteria's for new arrivals.

Obviously, since contact has only just been made a deal could take a while to fall into place but, on the face of things, signing the Mexico international would be a very smart move for the Anfield outfit.
