Liverpool's midfield is one of the most stacked areas of their team at the moment.

The Anfield outfit have at least six different players who can play anywhere within the middle of the park if called upon.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been the most in-form midfielder of the lot with his goals often single-handedly earning the Reds points.

However, some of his teammates have failed to live up to their usual standards which has led to several players being linked with an Anfield switch this summer.

But, since the Reds are a sell-to-buy club, they need to choose their transfers wisely and, at the moment, it seems like they're being pushed towards one player in particular.

Real Madrid are interested in Adam Wharton which means Liverpool could be closer to signing Eduardo Camavinga

At the moment, Ryan Gravenberch is Liverpool's main holding midfielder and, since he's only just extended his stay, it's clear that he isn't going anywhere any time soon.

However, even though Arne Slot has managed to convert his fellow countryman into a number six, it's hard to not try and think whether he'd be better off if he was used further up the pitch.

This would then open up the holding midfielder role in Liverpool's starting XI which could then be filled by a "spectacular" star.

That is, if a report from talkSPORT is to be believed as they suggest that Real Madrid are now interested in acquiring the services of Adam Wharton this summer.

"Liverpool are exploring their midfield options with Curtis Jones a potential departure," they wrote.

"The homegrown star was linked with a move to Inter Milan in the January transfer window and the Serie A leaders could return for the England international this summer.

"There is also uncertainty over the future of Alexis Mac Allister, who has just two years remaining on his current deal.

"However, firstly, the Reds must oust Manchester United in the race for Wharton’s signature.

"As well as Liverpool and United, Real Madrid are also believed to be keeping tabs on Blackbrun Rovers academy graduate Wharton ahead of their own anticipated summer shake-up."

Liverpool are closer to signing Eduardo Camavinga as Real Madrid would replace him with Adam Wharton

Both Wharton and Camavinga are extremely talented players.

And, even though both of them are on Liverpool's shortlist, the latter of the two would be the better option for the Anfield outfit at the moment.

Not only can the Frenchman play as a defensive midfielder but he's arguably one of the most versatile players in Los Blancos' squad at the moment.

He's also been used as a left-back by Real on many occasions which is perfect for Liverpool as Andy Robertson will need replacing.

Indeed, the fee required to prise Camavinga away from the Bernabeu would be costly but, in the grand scheme of things, it would be worthwhile.

So, if Real do sign Wharton this summer and the Frenchman is put on the transfer list, it's a move that Liverpool should be all over, especially since he's only 23 years old.
