Incredible stat shows why 'excellent' star is perfect for Liverpool
Liverpool have already been linked with a plethora of players this summer.
The Anfield outfit are on course for another transfer window full of drama with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson already on their way out.
And, since almost every area of the Reds' team needs to be upgraded, Fenway Sports Group are going to have to fork out a decent chunk of change to try and get their club competing for titles once again.
Even before Salah announced his departure, Liverpool were already being linked with several new attackers with that area of the pitch likely to be one of Richard Hughes' focus areas this summer.
And now, an almost perfect player has emerged for the Anfield outfit to try and sign.
Anthony Gordon has not been utilised by Newcastle this season
Before Anthony Gordon joined Newcastle, Liverpool were vying for his transfer.
He's a scouser and, even though he may have started his professional career with Everton, the attacker is a Liverpool fan.
The Englishman has caused the Anfield outfit many problems over the last few years when they've faced him with the Reds' fanbase often pleading with their club to try and sign him.
Due to his recent performances, talk about Gordon's future has been rife over the last few months and this incredible statistic that has just emerged proves exactly why the 25-year-old is a perfect fit.
"The xG that he [Gordon] generates versus the xA of the passes he receives, so the value of where he receives the pass to the value of where the shot is taken, he's one of the best wingers in the Premier League," Anfield Index said.
"He's probably top 10 or top 12 in the world in terms of generating xG based on where he receives it which is kind of an indictment on what Newcastle are this year."
Why this statistic makes Anthony Gordon perfect for Liverpool
One of the main problems that Liverpool have faced this season is the amount of threat they're producing.
Even though chances are being created by players such as Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai, none of Liverpool's players have been able to put the ball into the back of the net.
Hugo Ekitike has been Liverpool's most dangerous player this term and even he manages to balloon one shot over the bar in almost every game.
However, if they put someone such as Gordon up front who can seemingly create something out of nothing, it could be the answer to all of their problems.
Players such as Yan Diomande have been linked with potential transfers this summer but, of all the options available to Slot and Hughes at the moment, Gordon seems to be the most logical option.
The xG that the "excellent" Englishman creates is nothing short of impressive and, if Thomas Tuchel takes him to the World Cup as his back-up striker, he has a chance to prove how good he actually is.
A deal would certainly cost Liverpool a hefty chunk of change but, with Newcastle's financial situation as dodgy as it is at the moment, there's certainly going to be a price that they'd sell him for.
