Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has revealed who he would choose to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool next season.

With Jurgen Klopp having announced his decision to leave Anfield this summer, there has been plenty of speculation regarding who will succeed the charismatic 56-year-old.

Xabi Alonso is the overwhelming front-runner, although Liverpool face stiff competition from Bayer Leverkusen for his signature, while the likes of Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP and Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton have been linked.

However, former Tottenham and West Ham manager Harry Redknapp, whose son Jamie played for Liverpool, has named the left-field appointment he would make for the Anfield hot seat.

"I’m going to say somebody, and people are going to think that I’m off my head, but I would give it to Steven Gerrard," Redknapp told BetVictor (via DAZN).

"I know people will say that he was a failure at Aston Villa, and it didn’t go great there, but he’s a Liverpool man and was an incredible player for them.

"He’s got passion for the game, and I used to listen to him speak when he was at Rangers and always thought he was going to be top drawer. I would love to see him manage Liverpool."

Steven Gerrard was considered as the natural successor to Klopp for some time after an impressive start to his managerial career at Rangers, but the former Liverpool captain struggled for success at Aston Villa after making the step up to the Premier League.

Now at Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, Gerrard isn't pulling up any trees in the Middle East and there have even been suggestions that the 43-year-old could be sacked in the near future despite recently signing a contract extension.

While Gerrard will forever be a club legend at Liverpool and could potentially take over at Anfield one day, there is simply no chance that he will be appointed as Klopp's replacement.

Instead, his old midfield partner Xabi Alonso is the favourite for the job, and rightly so given his impressive tenure at Leverkusen.
