Forget Yan Diomande, Liverpool take first step towards deal for fantastic winger
Liverpool need a winger and it won't be Yan Diomande. It seems they've taken the first step towards an alternative.
Liverpool need to forget about Yan Diomande. The Reds were all-in on signing the Ivorian but he's picked Paris Saint-Germain in what is admittedly an embarrassment for LFC.
But they can't hold onto that. Instead, Liverpool have to move on to a pretty poor market and find their Mohamed Salah replacement.
They can't compare to Diomande, nor can they expect to find the same value - or the same potential, for that matter. This will have to be a very different kind of signing and it seems Liverpool have already done the initial work on one.
The Guardian reports that the Reds have eyes on Jarrod Bowen as everyone waits and sees what West Ham United want to do with their captain. Liverpool are far from alone in that: every major English club is doing the same.
Few have the same need for a right-winger as Liverpool, though. The Reds are now quite desperate and there's no question that Bowen would be starting for the Reds if he moved to Anfield this summer.
In a lot of ways, it would be a long time coming. Bowen has been on Liverpool's radar for many years - he was initially considered as a replacement for Salah back in 2022 when it appeared he may not sign a new contract.
And we still believe he could be the right option. There is no clear winger worth signing right now and signing an experienced, proven Premier League player as a tide over for a year or two fees smart.
Certainly smarter than spending massively on an unproven youngster who might end up being good enough. Or blowing £130m on someone who isn't actually worth that, purely because you need someone.
Bowen, then, is an incredibly interesting option who can deliver. No, he may not carry Liverpool to titles, nor would he be a long-term option, but he can be a component part of a strong side.
And that feels like the best Liverpool can do right now.
