Awful news, as Liverpool walk into a simply unbelievable problem

Liverpool have found themselves stuck with an unbelievable problem. One there's no easy fix for.

Liverpool need a right-winger. Desperately, actually, as their production from either wing was low last season and now they’ve lost Mohamed Salah.

Even in a season where Salah was nowhere near his best, he still scored six and assisted six in the Premier League. It isn’t easy to find those numbers for anything resembling reasonable money.

But the problem goes further than that. There is a remarkable lack of up-and-coming right-sided wingers in the top five European leagues.

Now, there are some truly incredible ones. Lamine Yamal and Michael Olise are sensational players and under 24 - but Liverpool have zero chance of signing either.

Below that you have Antoine Semenyo, who just joined Manchester City, and Yan Diomande, who has now chosen Paris Saint-Germain over Liverpool.

Below them? Bryan Mbeumo, again unsignable, and Mason Greenwood (unsignable for entirely different reasons).

Then comes the drop-off. The next batch would be Harry Wilson, Jarrod Bowen, Nicolas Pepe, Flaurian Thauvin and Jamie Leweling. All interesting players but a long, long way from the names we started with here.

So here’s the problem for Liverpool. They can’t sign the truly great ones, and then there’s a big drop-off in quality to the extent where value isn’t there.

We’re not actually sure what Liverpool do from here. There is such a poor market on the right side that you end up taking a chance on someone like Yankuba Minteh - a 21-year-old whose best Premier League season was equal to Salah’s worst. And he’d cost an enormous amount of money.

It’s an unbelievable problem for a club like Liverpool who should have their pick of nearly everyone. Only, that group, as it turns out, isn’t very big.
