Liverpool still have a couple of areas within their team that could do with an upgrade.

Although an awful lot of money was spent on bolstering the Reds' ranks in the summer transfer window, Arne Slot is still short in a couple of areas.

Injuries obviously haven't helped matters all that much either with players such as Giovanni Leoni and Alexander Isak being ruled out for most, if not all of the 2025-26 season.

At the moment, the Anfield outfit's defence is their biggest concern with the club's only natural right back being Calvin Ramsay.

Indeed, Slot does have a couple of options within his team that can be used as right-backs, but, in the grand scheme of things, a natural option there would do their chances of winning the Premier League the world of good.

And, even though there isn't all that long left in the January transfer window, rumours are continuing to emerge which means that a deal could still be on.

Fabrizio Romano update moves Liverpool a step closer to signing Denzel Dumfries

Although the main message to have emerged from Anfield over the last month or so has been that Liverpool aren't likely to do any business this January, recent reports have started to challenge that theory.

It's clear that the Anfield outfit are going to be short in defence if they don't sign anyone before deadline day.

And, since they're still competing for the FA Cup and the Champions League, there's still a lot for them to play for.

This is why fans have asked Liverpool to at least explore the market and, as per a new update from Fabrizio Romano, it seems like a move for a new right-back could actually be on the cards.

Taking to his personal X account, the transfer guru said the following about Dumfries' situation.

"Inter has been on Norton Cuffy since yesterday, that's all," he wrote.

"Regardless of the denials, we'll see what happens!"

Liverpool could do a lot worse then Denzel Dumfries at the moment

Dumfries may be 30 years old but it's almost impossible to deny his talent.

Not only is the Dutchman rather fast but he's also incredibly strong and, when fit, he's often one of Inter Milan's stand-out performers.

The full-back has had plenty of experience in both the Serie A and the Champions League which, with how young most of Liverpool's first-team squad are at the moment, could be worth its weight in gold.

Of course, his injury history is something to take into consideration when plotting a move but, since Inter are already looking for a new right-back, the Reds could sign him for a rather decent fee.

This is all speculation at the moment, and, until deadline day ends, there's literally no knowing about how things could pan out at L4, especially with the recent rumours surrounding some of their own players such as Curtis Jones.
