Fabrizio Romano reveals Liverpool's stance on Giorgi Mamardashvili
Giorgi Mamardashvili's Liverpool transfer was met with mixed reviews.
The goalkeeper was initially signed during the 2024-25 season for around £30 million.
However, he spent the entirety of that campaign on loan to Valencia as, at the time, the Reds still had Caoimhin Kelleher among their ranks.
In the end, the Georgian replaced Kelleher and, unfortunately, things haven't been that smooth sailing.
He played 20 games for Liverpool last term and, although his performances were fairly spotty, he was still a decent option.
Rumours about his future started to emerge after Alisson's contract was extended this summer and now, the Reds' stance on the Georgian's future has been revealed.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool are happy with Giorgi Mamardashvili
Even though fans could tell that Mamardashvili was nowhere near as good as Kelleher last term, he's still managed to stick around.
However, that could end up changing in the near future as the Reds have recently decided to spend £30 million on KRC Genk 'keeper, Lucca Brughmans.
The Belgian is only 18 years old but, he's already a regular starter for Genk and has been putting in some top-notch displays this term.
Thanks to this, fans are now wondering what plans Liverpool's hierarchy have in store for their squad this season with Fabrizio Romano now sharing an insight into what the Reds' fanbase have to look forward to in the future.
"There is a serious possibility this could be Alisson’s last season at Liverpool. Nothing is decided, but there is interest from several countries and he could explore those opportunities," he shared via his YouTube channel.
"Liverpool knew he was considering Juventus last summer. They extended his contract for a further season and he decided to stay.
"It’s still very early, and Liverpool could ask him to stay at the end of the season. The club are also really happy with Mamardashvili."
Liverpool must figure out if Giorgi Mamardashvili is their next Alisson
Alisson has been Liverpool's starting goalkeeper for as long as anyone can remember.
The Brazilian has been a rock between the sticks at Anfield and, when he hasn't been played, the weaknesses among Liverpool's ranks has been exposed.
In fact, there have actually been several games where Alisson's performances have single-handedly earned the Reds their points.
A lot of their success has come from how strong Alisson has been and, having Virgil van Dijk in front of him has obviously also helped with that.
Right now, most fans can't see how Mamardashvili could plug the gap left by Alisson but, if Liverpool can, they need to figure out a way to prove that to fans.
Otherwise, some serious questions are going to need to be asked.
Or, a lot of money will need to be spent trying to replace the Brazilian which, in reality, isn't all that feasible at the moment, especially since they just splashed £30 million on Brughmans in summer.
